Irina Derevko Shipper Discussion

Mar 07, 2006 20:51

I'm horrible! Two days late, I can't believe myself. *blush* I'm so, so sorry I completely forgot I was supposed to post this. Feel free to slap me on the face of something. Oh God, I suck >.<

I paired Irina with anyone I thought possible, even some of the icky ones, so we've got....

Irina/Jack

Irina/Vaughn

Irina/Sark

Irina/Sloane

Irina/Kendall

Irina/Lauren

Irina/Barnett

Irina/Chase

Irina & Jack: Is it any surprise that this is the very top of my list? I now have a reason to gush endlessly about my all time favorite ‘ship :D. So, what makes these two so damn intriguing? Aside from the brain-melting hotness of having Victor Garber and Lena Olin on one screen, what attracts me is the complexity, the angst, and, of course, the deception. Jack and Irina are the classic ‘forbidden-love’ romance, with the crazy Alias espionage twist. You’ve got the good guy with the bad guy- CIA agent with KGB assassin. Already, we know it’s going to be hard for these two to get together. Then J.J. Abrams adds a whole new level of messed-up: the betrayal. Even though these are the things that tear the couple apart- their dark history, their hatred towards one another in the beginning of season two, their competing alliances- they are also the very things that make this relationship so interesting and different. Would Mr. & Mrs. Smith still be fun if John and Jane weren’t enemies? I think not. There’s a constant inner battle with Jack- he’s torn between hating the woman who stole so much from him, and loving the woman he married, lost, and got back. Irina has to deal with making up for her past mistakes, trying to keep her family out of her dangerous plots and agendas, and having to continue to betray those she loves most. Irina and Jack give a whole new meaning to the word “dysfunctional”, but the ‘ship wouldn’t be the same without all of their problems. J & I are meant to be. Heck, they even go together in the alphabet :P

Irina & Vaughn: Twisted, I know, but you can’t deny it. You *know* you can never look the other way when Irina and Vaughn are in the same screen, and you know some part of you deep inside is begging for one of them to jump the other’s bones. Or something like that. I love the tension during their first few scenes in season two- those looks Irina gave him, like she was wondering whether it would be more fun to slit his throat or have her way with him. I like the way Vaughn has to control his anger towards her, because he hates her with a fiery passion but he just might be wondering what color underwear she has on…

Irina & Sark: This ‘ship has incredibly potential. They both claim to, or seem to have flexible loyalties, as they both betray Sloane in season two. However, they seem to be a lot more loyal to each other and to their loved ones than they would care to admit. Sark has little family, but he’s shown his care for both Alison and Lauren in a big way. Irina, although she seems unfeeling, would do anything for her daughters. Sark and Irina are both on the same side, most of the time, so there’s not that pesky problem with alliances to worry about, and they both seem to be in similar positions at times, so they can comfort each other in times of need :D

Irina & Sloane: Do I even have to say it? Oh My Lena, can we say EW? Trying to give Sloane a love interest is not only wrong, but completely useless, since no one could possibly replace Emily. It often ends up being a disaster (*points at 3x14- Blowback*). Those of us who have the season two DVDs have most probably seen the deleted scene with the world’s largest ICK factor. There’s a reason that scene was deleted- J.J. even said it was gross! If the guy that made it up thought it was nasty, how the hell are we supposed to take it? You could obviously see Irina struggling not to stick Sloane in the face with his perverted roaming hands. She was as squicked out as the audience.

Irina & Kendall: I don’t care what you say, this one is funny. It has the potential to be interesting, even if it’s just a fling and nothing long-term. CIA Director-person with CIA’s most wanted? Mix Kendall’s ethical assiness with Irina’s kickassiness and you’ve got a hell of a random, but fun, ‘ship.

Irina & Lauren: I’ve seen this one discussed but I really don’t see it. At all. Lauren stole Irina’s daughter’s boyfriend, worked both sides AND GOT CAUGHT, and tried to kill both of Irina’s daughters and her husband. Personally, I think Irina would rather murder the crap out of Lauren.

Irina & Barnett: Even if it weren’t a romantic ‘ship, it would be hella funny. I mean, can you just picture Irina trying not to shoot her brains out while Dr. Barnett goes on and on about all the problems her patient ‘supposedly’ has?

Irina & Chase: This one came up during a very, very random daydream. You can probably imagine that Chase and Irina would hate each other, right? They wouldn’t be able to stand each other, and then it would develop into an odd appreciation of one another’s skills, and then into something a little more…different. As Lana said, on Smallville, “The best ones always start that way.”
