The first day in Nashville wasn't very eventful. Chris, an old college friend of mine, took me to see his school, Belmont. I got to meet a few of his friends while there and then we headed to lunch. Nothing exotic, but the lunch pasta special at Fazoli's wasn't too bad. Their bread sticks are awesome. That night, Chris has to work, so I hung around the apartment and started watching episodes of Spaced, a TV show that I have been wanting to see. Todd, a friend in Atlanta, gave them to me while I was there.
After a relaxing evening, I set out for a day of site seeing. I started with the Opryland Hotel. I think I went there when I was a little kid, but after visiting it again, I doubt the original visit. It is absolutely incredible on the inside. It's hard to believe that is it a hotel with all the greenery, flowers, trees, and waterfalls. I would imagine that if I lived in a big city and stayed in a place like the Opryland hotel, it would be like a tropical resort.
Since I was close, I stopped by the Grand Ole Opry House. The main building was closed, but I got a couple of pics from the outside and checked out the giftshop. Afterward, I met up with a friend and neighbor of Chris', Taylor, to go down to Lynchburg, TN to visit the Jack Daniels Distillery.
It has been something I have thought about doing for a while and now I'm making it happen. Taylor is a nice guy. Kinda weird, but nice. Thankfully, he's a big music person and played a lot of music along the way. That helped the slightly awkward conversation along the hour and a half drive. The tour itself is free. Probably due to the fact it is a dry county and they can't give any samples there. They do give unlimited lemonade at the end. The tour was very interesting and informative as to what makes Jack Daniels distinct.
After the tour, Taylor and I returned to Nashville. I met up with a friend for dinner before going to the Belmont Phi Mu Alpha meeting. Chris and I were both involved in the chapter in Princeton and he became involved with the Belmont chapter when he moved from Grad school. It was actually a wonderful time meeting the guys there and hanging out afterward at the local diner.
The next morning, I awoke to rainy weather and a boring ride to Memphis. I have done this drive many times and it was not any more thrilling. The day was spent at home resting. I'm very tired for some reason and rest almost doesn't seem to be doing it. I've gained a few pounds due to lack of inactivity and also I've not been eating the best. I think it is usurping my energy.
Yesterday, I didn't do much of anything. At least, I don't recall having done anything of substance. Today, there was a little drama, but quickly resolved. I had lunch with a friend and have been chilling the rest of the day. A little over a week left in Memphis and then off to Milwaukee. I'm very excited.
