Day 32 cont through 35: Fireworks and Hiking, Driving to Portland; 4,769 miles

So, I didn't realize how behind I was. Let me catch up.

So, to mention a couple more things about the 4th, that day we went to see Conrad Mansion. This historic home is very fascinating and the history of the family is just as interesting. For dinner we had fried Elk steaks and potatoes. This is my first time trying elk and it was pretty good, very similar to a mix between lean beef and deer. That evening, Dusty and I went to see the Whitefish firework show. Being in a small town in Montana, I wasn't expecting the show that was to follow. The area has a little more money than surrounding areas and it was apparent in the display. I was quite impressed and very glad to have stayed for the event.

The next day, Dusty and I went hiking all day. It was wonderful to hike up a mountain and through the woods, especially considering there was still snow in some places. Though I wasn't prepared for snow, it was pretty to see, except the areas which had been hit by avalanche. By the time we got home, I was wiped out and just rested for the remainder of the evening.

The next day was going to be a long one and not too exciting, the drive to Portland. I knew this was a long drive and not much to do along the way, though I did stop in Spokane for lunch and right outside of Portland for some beautiful waterfalls. Arriving to Portland, I made it to my friend Kevin's house and sat on the porch for a while with a beer. It was nice to relax for a while. Later, we went to Savoy for dinner, where I had a great hamburger.

Yesterday, I slept in quite late. I guess I didn't realize how tired I was. I lounged around for a while before seeing some of Portland with Kevin that afternoon. We drove around and finally stopped at the Rose Gardens and also Powell's Bookstore, where I actually bought a book. We swung by the grocery store before returning home and starting a cookout. Kevin is a vegetarian, so we had to find something I could eat with all my allergies including soy. We found some fake chicken made with corn and actually made a good sandwich. It complimented the grilled veggies, potato salad and baked beans.

Today, I am going to the Farmer's Market and check out some more things in Portland. M
