I can't believe we've been here six days already! Holy cow, no wonder I'm tired.
This morning we got up for our last day of dives. It was totally bittersweet. We've spent the last five days with these guys, seeing completely beautiful and amazing things and today was it. We got pics of them (below) and the Wife got the dive master to sign off on her drift dive, so now she's got some kind of
Padi specialty something or other. But we were sad to leave our crew behind.
The dives today were beautiful. The first one was pretty typical, but on the second one we saw four tortugas (turtles), including one that passed within a couple of feet of us. It was a little heart stoppingly beautiful. We also saw a nurse shark and a pretty big ray. I don't think I mentioned that I saw an enormous
puffer fish. It was pretty cool. :)
After that we were starving so we had pizza in the little outdoor trattoria by the beach. We also finally indulged in piña coladas! We've not had much to drink up till now because hangover+scuba diving=/=fun. But now we're done, so it's cocktail time!
After lunch was a much needed nap and then we went out for our anniversary dinner. We went to Kinta - the only fancy restaurant on Cozumel. You can tell it's fancy because they substituted all their Cs for Ks. The Wife had a pork loin with almonds and figs and I had "Kamarones y Kallo," shrimp an corn. It also had scallops.
As soon as my dish was brought over the restaurant's kitty made her way over. Her name is Pancha and she was very interested in my dinner. I shared my shrimp with her since I was getting full.
For dessert we had abuelita's banana bread pudding and caramel helado (ice cream). It was totally delish dish.
Tomorrow we're going to endure a pitch from a rival resort in order to get free scooters and all the other assorted accoutrement they give you in order to guilt you into buying a time share. The Wife and I figure you can't get blood from a stone, so we'll endure the pitch, get our scooters and head to the beach! So yeah, the plan for tomorrow is the beach. Piña coladas under umbrellas by the seashore. Perfecto.
The sight we've seen every morning as the boat pulls up to get us.
The beach where we've been taking our surface interval between dives.
Peacock at the surface interval.
The other diver that's been with us the last 4 days, Pat.
Our Captain, Hector. But he goes by Mago, which means magician. He did some tricks for us.
Our dive master, Pedro Pablo. He was completely adorable and found sharks when I said I wanted to see sharks. He promised that next time we're down he'll go to his ranch and get some sea horses for me.
Today's towel sculpture is a dog. She has a bouganvilla flower behind her ear.
The view from our room. I was really trying to capture the colors of the ocean, but the camera just can't see what the eye can.
The beach area.
The remains of our appetizer.
norwichtoboston would have peed herself over these.
Margaritas! Con jugo fresca! Sin prepar.
The Wife's pork dish.
Camarones y vieira para mia.
Panchita eating a bit of shrimp.

Our hotel.
Here's the logo for our hotel. I don't know what the pic is supposed to be of, but it looks to me like some kind of Egyptian bird picking its nose. Or something.
Buenas noches.
