If anyone has a really good memory, you might remember the blue Florentine dress, the peacock dress, I started on ages ago. Like, two or three years ago. It is for the most based on the pattern of Eleonora di Toledo's funeral dress, and partly on the crimson Pisa dress. Both were made in the early 1560s. For some reason I just never got the skirt right when following the pattern, so I started putting it together as felt most suitable for the dress. Things improved from there. And when I got the sleeves to look Florentine rather than Elizabethan I realized I didn't have to scrap the project after all.
I've been working on accessories for some time. I've made a partlet, an apron, improved the underskirt with a stiff hem and tuck, and also made garters. Since I finished exams yesterday, I found myself having both time and energy to try it all on, as an outfit. Here's various photos. I am very happy with the dress now, I like how the shoulder straps are placed and I also like the bell shape of the skirt. Plus, I still think that black trim is da bomb!
I didn't get to lace the right side as tight as I should. Ignore that... Dressing alone is so much work!
The underlayers: linen chemise, red wool stockings, red garters, brown underskirt with golden embroidered hem, partlet tied under the arms and in front, and a mustard saccoccia with black trims. I also use back Mary Janes.
Dressing alone is a nightmare!
Front shots of the dress.
Side shots of the dress. The first ones shows ca. placement of the pocket and how it can be accessed through the side slit of the skirt. There's also a photo showing where the bodice lace up in the side.
Back shots and sitting shots of the dress.
