TOP 20 MOVIE MUSICALS

Feb 07, 2011 20:35

Be it movie adaption of stage musicals, or movie musicals later adapted to stage, or just very good movie musicals. With one exception (Mamma Mia!) I want the music to be written especially for the story told. And I want the movie to be a movie - using the medium for what it is, instead of being a filmed musical. Fantastic costumes doesn't hurt. In no particular order:

Chicago
The Producers
Mamma Mia!
Jesus Christ Superstar
My Fair Lady
Sound of Music
Singing in the Rain
Grease
Annie
Rocky Horror Show
Cabaret
Mary Poppins
Sweeney Todd
Wizard of Oz
Little Shop of Horrors
Sweet Charity
Evita
The King and I
Les Parapluies de Cherbourg
A Little Night Music (I'm the only one in the world liking this movie adaption)
Hairspray

(I must admit I don't count "Moulin Rouge" as a musical movie. I count it as a movie with music. Ditto for "Romance & Cigarettes").
