A combination of having taken pictures of many rare and random works of art in my studies + being highly inspired by the fantastic Bronzino doublet
peteyfrogboy is completing these days, I've finally made some 16th century galleries for men.
One is of extant pieces of clothes. I've already posted about them in my LJ (except the one of Cosimo I de' Medici, but you've all seen that one, I guess). I've tried to compare them with what's seen in portraits of around the same time, and if possible also include a picture of the wearer. So far I have 5 breeches*, 1 pair of hoses, 5 doublets, 1 sleeved cloak + various shoes. I will of course add more if I find any - or better pics of the ones already there.
http://aneafiles.webs.com/renaissancegallery/extantmen.html The other gallery is an attempt to gather fine male portraits and garb depictions. I've sorted them roughly by modern Italian regions - Tuscany, Lazio, Veneto, Emilia-Romagna etc. This is of course not entirely accurate, as borders kept changing their lines. And Bergamo switched from the Lombardy to Veneto and seemed to have their own style going... Some local courts could differ in fashion from places nearby. But it'll give you roughly an idea of what went on the various places.
http://aneafiles.webs.com/renaissancegallery/men.html From the latter gallery I've added pictures I've taken on study trips, especially in Rome (various oratories and museums) and Veneto (Palladio villas). They might not be of fantastic quality, but it's fun to see stuff not printed everywhere. Some examples:

I love it. Briefs a la 15th century Italy. Note the drawstring...

I've seen pics of them when being restored, and read that they were made of wool, but I haven't seen any pics of current state. I guess it'll be included in the new Moda a Firenze...
