I'm in Cleveland, Ohio right now. All weekend my mom and i have been flying/driving around appleton, wisconsin, Milwaukee and chicago (well, evanston, same thing) doing my college music school auditions. I auditioned for northwestern and lawrence so far, my top two favorite schools, and man did they go great! At lawrence, the first one, i had to wait about 2 hours, plenty of time to get good and nervous, but then i did great. I sang my italian (non so piu cosa son) and my english piece(to joy, which is actually a very depressing song about a dead baby). At northwestern we didn't have to wait nearly as long. it wasn't a big planned audition day, so there were only about 10 of us. and, whoop de do, 1 mezzo (me), one tenor (man) and 8 sopranos! i'm glad i'm not competing in that range, there's way too many of them.
I volunteered to go first. it was funny, the professor said "i'll leave you to fight over who has to go first" "i'll do it!" i said. He looked a little shocked..."oh! well, that was easy"
At this one you have to have four songs prepared, one in each of the major opera languages (english, italian, german, french), you choose which song you sing first and they choose the second one. Here I sang my Italian (non so piu cosa son) as my first piece and they requested my german strauss, Zuiegnung. Again, it went great. i'm feeling really good about all my auditions so far, and i only have one let- oberlin. Now i just wait and see what happens. scary.
super long entry! i don't write often, but when i do i really ramble!
