[Challenge] New Storyline: Walking the Labyrinth

Jan 26, 2017 23:23

Maritza as we know her in The Theseus Paradox is blue haired, early 30s, singer for the metal band Inquisitor. Her story there was largely surrounding two important things- her PTSD from a sexual assault in high school and the violent threats that followed; and the continuing search for information about her mother after her unexpected death five years earlier. I realized in the middle of writing her in that storyline that there was so much more I needed to explore with her- how did she initially react to her mother's death? How did it drive her in the beginning of her career? And even the details like what did she find when she had to go through her mother's apartment and when did she decide to give up on being Mari? I only knew part of her journey.

So, I decided to go back before she was Maritza, back when she was still Mari (with red hair). Back when she'd spent ten years fighting with abandonment issues by using music and activism as distractions. When she'd spent a decade creating herself in her own image after rejecting everything about the woman who rejected her. She is lost, confused, in complete emotional upheaval.

Walking the Labyrinth starts when she's 25 and Crown the Damned is about to professionally record their first EP. The ink is barely dry when there's a knock on the door. It is the start of the journey for her to become Maritza again, to become the woman we already know her to be (though in full disclosure some of the details posted in The Theseus Paradox might change slightly).

And as a reminder to vegawriters: [storyline] walking the labyrinth and, of course, the [challenge] new storyline please :-)
