a/n: this is like a month or two old, idek.  cliche, boring, etc, the title doesn't even make sense.

of the decade;

Kim Jonghyun is the neighborhood's top-of-the-class party goer (and he sets the bar for pretty intense partying) and in truth, he can't complain about a thing.  Hook-ups, shots, the occasional oriental vase to go with the scheme of his living room-no, Jonghyun can't say he dislikes any of it.

His best friend Jinki throws some nice parties, too, and when Jonghyun says they're nice, they're kickin'.  So Jonghyun doesn't miss a second of it.  First to come, last to leave.  (Well, half of the time he can't even make it to the door, so Jinki just pulls out the extra blanket and throws him onto the couch like they did in their high school days.)  He's always the life of the party, omnipresent, even omniscient-when there's a couple banging in Jinki's bedroom closet, the blond knows it, senses it, before Jinki can even suspect it-and Jonghyun, even his fellow dormers, wouldn't have it any other way.

But one day Jinki leaves the party and comes back twenty minutes later, returning to the face of a rather frazzled Jonghyun, with one arm loosely draped over squared shoulders and stiff arms.

"Jonghyun," Jinki smiles like a madman as he topples over his huge feet, into the foyer of the apartment, "meet Kibum."

Jonghyun's glad that he's at least kind of sober as he takes Kibum's hand and mumbles, "Enchante" because otherwise, French dressing (the good stuff) would've been all over Kibum's glossy, leather boots.  The guy takes a step back though, eyes saying "I am not walking into this AIDs-infested place" (actually, no, his lips are saying that, Jonghyun speculates as he squints) and quickly turns on his heels.  But Jinki's too quick and lugs him back into the room.

"Look, freshman, you've gotta learn to have fun in college."  He flashes him another one of his eye smiles and then runs into the party, missing the excitement and the thrum.  Kibum stares up at Jonghyun with much distaste.

Jonghyun shrugs.  "He's usually not that trashed."

"Yeah, I know."  Kibum crosses pale, thin arms over his chest.  "He's my cousin."

And the blond's interest quickly skyrockets through the roof of Jinki's well-insulated house as he closes the door behind Kibum and ushers him in, "Cousin, you say?"

Kibum frowns a bit and shrugs off Jonghyun's twitching hand.  "Yeah."

"That's pretty badass," Jonghyun smiles for effect and wills his twitching eye to stop.  Blondie to the left has a blondie in her hand and Jonghyun's sure that something is in there, and it's calling his name.  "He's a cool kid."  He focuses all of his attention on the boy, though.

But Kibum looks around, a grim frown set on his face.  "Sure, if you can call this 'cool.'"

The blond blinks a bit in confusion.  "You don't like to party?"  And the look he gets in return, narrowed eyes and snarled lips, sends unnecessary shivers down his spine.

"This isn't partying.  This is getting trashed and wasted and fucked up.  Only idiots do this."

Jonghyun bites his lip.  Fuck.  "Yeah, right?" he laughs a bit nervously and wipes the back of his neck with a hand.  "So you don't drink or, like, do things?"

"Do things?" the raven repeats (and then the shiver runs straight down there and it feels better than what a blondie can do to him, so much better) before he grumbles, "I hate drugs.  I hate alcohol."  Jonghyun nods numbly.  "Do you party?" Kibum asks, almost spits.  "Do you like getting high and killing brain cells and screwing girls half-unconscious?"

Yes.  "Of course not," he lies right through his teeth, and he can feel something backing up in his throat, clogging it up, definitely not nervousness or anything.  Jonghyun grins.  "That's stupid."

And Kibum smiles back for the first time that night.  "Really?  With that shit-eating grin of yours, I thought you'd be just the kind to do that type of stuff."  Jonghyun feels all of the blood rush down to his feet and his ears begin to buzz because that cocky smirk is pointed and dead on.  "Just kidding," Kibum suddenly laughs and he doubles over, hand softly brushing Jonghyun's knee.  "You seem like a really nice guy."

Jonghyun forces a grin and laughs, "Oh, thanks, you do too."  And after a moment's pause, "So, what kind of-"

"Hey, Jonghyun!"  The two look up to see a boy nearly twice Jonghyun's height stumbles their way, eyes crescents hidden under side-swept, sticky bangs.  "Who's this, your date?  Pretty hot."  He leans over and smiles brightly right in front of Kibum's face.  "'Sup."

"Can you, uh, not?"  Kibum roughly shoves the guy away (god damn, Jonghyun thinks, he's strong) and Jonghyun's friend splutters a bit.

"Jinwoon," Jonghyun cuts in rather abruptly as he pulls Kibum back a bit, "this is Jinki's cousin, Kibum.  A guy."

Jinwoon's face immediately falls and he murmurs, "Oh, shit.  Sorry, man."  He raises a hand up in apology but Kibum simply snorts, rolls his eyes (and Jonghyun can't help but think that he looks like the perfect diva under the dimmed lights).  "Well, I guess I'll just-" the guy pauses to glance a bit fretfully at Kibum's direction, "just leave you alone, then.  See ya later, Jonghyun."

"He's a friend of yours?" Kibum murmurs rather softly, eyes downcast at the rug under his feet.  Jonghyun blinks a bit at him.

Yeah, kind of.  "Not really, we just meet occasionally.  You know.  Acquaintances."  He leans a bit forward to catch Kibum's eyes but the raven has his head cocked at a rather odd angle, bottom lip pulled back between a row of pearly whites, and Jonghyun unconsciously swipes his tongue across his lips which is a thing he does to girls who are a bit obstinate but he assumes Kibum's an exception.  "Ignore him, he always gets trashed like that.  So what kind of music do you like?"

Kibum looks up like he's been asked a mind boggling question (Jonghyun begins to doubt if he even asked the question he wanted to ask three seconds ago and breaks out into a cold sweat) before slowly sitting back up to answer, "I like-I kinda like pop and indie rock."

"What?" Jonghyun asks loudly because the fucking music is so goddamn loud and tries his hardest to catch Kibum's black eyes again.  "What'd you say?"  Suddenly loud rock fills the living room and the laughing and chattering and moaning increases.

"I said I like indie rock," but Jonghyun can't read his lips as well as he did before (those red lips, slightly curved and pouted, and-), "Jonghyun?"

Wildly the boy shakes his head and pulls Kibum up onto his feet.  "Let's go into the kitchen," he shouts, "it's too loud."  He effortlessly drags them through the sea of people-it's all thanks to his experience but Jonghyun doesn't want to admit that to Kibum-and finally lands them in the kitchen which buzzes with the sound of the refrigerator running.  Kibum seems out of breath and Jonghyun doesn't blame him.  People can be vicious in crowds.

"So," Jonghyun laughs into his sleeve as Kibum pours himself a cup of iced water in near aggravation, "what do you like?"

"Indie rock," the raven almost spits into the cup, flushing when Jonghyun begins to chuckle at him.  "What're you laughing at?"

"Nothing, nothing, you're just kinda cute."  He raises his hands up then lets his eyes fall on the cup in Kibum's clenching hands.  "Hey," he murmurs with concern and for once not drugs laced in his voice, "that is water, right?"

Kibum's eyes narrow in a way that makes Jonghyun's skin prickle all over his arms and legs, "Yeah, it tastes like-"  Kibum stops and his face flushes just as Jonghyun's mouth falls open, letting a curt laugh of disbelief tumble from his lips.

Oh fuck.  "Are you all right?"

"I just drank-just-what the fuck did I just drink, Jonghyun?"  In a frenzy the raven throws the plastic cup into the sink and groans, "Oh my God, this is so disgusting."

"Dude, dude," Jonghyun wheezes between labored breaths as he clutches his stomach (he doesn't even know when he began to laugh this hard but Kibum's red face and stutters seem so funny and cute to him), "calm down, I bet it's nothing serious.  Seriously, as long as you didn't drink too much you won't be-Kibum?"  The blond freezes because his senses are tingling, not the trashed-couple-is-messing-up-the-sheets-upstairs senses because he couldn't give a damn about Jinki's covers, but the this-guy-is-going-to-pass-out-soon senses, and he grabs Kibum's arms, brings him close.  "Dude, you all right?"

Kibum lets his head loll to the right, "I feel-fuck, Jonghyun."  He stumbles a bit but refuses to fall into Jonghyun's open arms.  "I need to sit, or something.  I need water."

"Wait here," Jonghyun mutters and then throws the fridge door open.  He reaches around for bottled water and checks the cap, walking back to Kibum with his brows furrowed.   The blond thinks a bit bitterly to himself, My mom has a better tolerance for alcohol, before twisting the cap off and offering it to the groaning raven.  "Drink."

He takes the raven up to Jinki's bedroom upstairs and closes the door behind him, sighing.  No, he's never faced this much shit at a party before-maybe a broken condom or a girl throwing up after the sex-he mulls, sitting down next to the boy sprawled out on the bed.  Quietly he pats him on the knee.  "Funny kid."

"Nothing about this is funny," Kibum snaps.  "I feel like I'm on a fucking boat right now, this is horrible."

"That's probably just you making yourself think that."  Jonghyun shifts closer to the boy and lies down next to him, shoulders a good three inches apart.  "Seriously, it's because you're so prude-"

"Excuse me for liking a bit of class in my life," he breaks in and despite the muted thumping from downstairs and the dull buzzing in his own ears, Jonghyun can hear the hurt clear in his voice.

"Sorry," the blond mumbles.  He shifts about until he's on his shoulder and asks, "So you just don't go to parties?"

Kibum frowns.  "Small parties with friends, sure, but nothing like this.  I never see the need."  And then he turns so he's facing Jonghyun as well and he murmurs in a rather low tone, "You were lying, though, weren't you."

Despite himself Jonghyun freezes again and Kibum catches the way he looks down at the space between them with a small smile.  "I could tell from the beginning, you know.  But I guess it's kind of nice of you to lie.  Or something."  A confused look crosses the raven's face but he quickly shakes it away.  He rakes the hair in his eyes away with thin fingers and Jonghyun absentmindedly watches his lips say, "I just never understood why Jinki likes this stuff.  He's such a good student every other day."  Turning, he smiles a bit bitterly at Jonghyun.  "Can you make sure he doesn't hurt himself?"

"Of course."  The blond cracks a grin he hopes doesn't come off as smug, but when he sees Kibum slightly melt into the covers with a relaxed sigh, Jonghyun feels relief.  "What're you studying right now?"

Kibum blinks once twice and then answers with a smile, "Arts.  Theater and design.  You?"

"Applied music," Jonghyun sighs, "I take all my classes with Jinki."  Kibum nods silently.  "Are you feeling all right?"

"Yup."  Suddenly the raven sits upright and Jonghyun's eyes follow his hands.  "Hey, I'm sorry.  You should be out having fun, and I'm."  he twiddles with his thumbs, leaves the sentence hanging, but Jonghyun grabs onto the tail and laughs.

"Don't worry about it.  I'd rather spend time here than down there."  Which isn't a lie, and Kibum seems to understand as he smiles sheepishly and grabs a pillow off of Jinki's bed.  He holds it close and stares down intently into Jonghyun's eyes.  An uncomfortable shade of red creeps up his neck and distractedly Jonghyun murmurs, "Do you dance?"

"Yeah, but I'm not that great."  Kibum falls silent, before, "Hey, do you have a girlfriend?"

Jonghyun snorts involuntarily and Kibum bristles a bit, a retort ready to jump off his tongue.  "Are you interested or something?"  Kibum splutters for a bit and he plays with the ends of his shirt, the deep red contrasting greatly with his black fringe.  "I'm just kidding," Jonghyun laughs, "but I don't have a girlfriend."

"Shocker."  The raven smiles widely, grin stretching from ear to ear and then Jonghyun realizes just how high his cheek bones are.  "Well."  His attention falls back to his shirt.

"What about you?"  Jonghyun feels a bit stupid the moment the question leaves him mouth because of Kibum's incredulous expression on his face.

"No."  His reply is curt and is loaded with bite.  "Do I look like I would?"

"I don't-I mean, it's possible," Jonghyun stutters.  He glances up at Kibum's eyes which are softer than he expects, smiling slightly down on him.  "Hey, Kibum?"

"Yeah?"

Jonghyun's hand lightly skirts the raven's legs and then his fingers begin to crawl up his thigh, still light, still feathery, and they finally land on Kibum's wrist.  Keeping his eyes on Kibum's stomach, Jonghyun murmurs, "You're interesting."  His eyes flicker up to see Kibum's black black hair cascading down the sides of his sharp face, covering his eyes, but he can see a touch of pink on his cheeks and ears.  "Do you think I am?"

"Is this one of your ways of picking people up?" Kibum asks, but it isn't sad or bitter or angry, just curious, so Jonghyun simply shrugs in reply.  "Because it's kind of lame."

Jonghyun picks himself up from the bed and slowly slowly rakes a shy hand through the silky strands, nearly liquid to the touch.  He doesn't feel Kibum tense underneath him and he smiles a bit to himself, other hand daring to drag its way from Kibum's arm and onto his hip, where he feels warm skin and sharp hip bones.  Jonghyun finally leans forward and brushes his lips along the boy's smooth jaw, savoring the soft touch that contrasts greatly with his dry, chapped lips.  Their lips slide together at once and Jonghyun takes it slow, controls the pace as he tugs and bites and sighs softly into Kibum's parting lips.

"Is it working?" he asks into the kiss and only gets a soft whimper in reply.  "Good."  Jonghyun pulls him in closer by the chin and tilts his head, deepens the kiss, adds a tongue despite the desperate scratches along his side.

The kiss is slow and everything Jonghyun's not used to, slow and perfect and so sensual despite his clear mind, and Jonghyun begins to wonder where this guy's been all his life and why he's been missing out.  He lets out an involuntary groan before wrapping an arm around Kibum's hips and pulling him in.

"Jonghyun," Kibum almost whines against his lips as he pulls back for a breath of air, "Jonghyun."  Fumbling fingers skirt the blond's shoulders.  "I don't-"

"Don't worry about it."  Jonghyun distracts him with a chaste kiss to the lips then to the nose.  He lets his hands run under Kibum's shirt, feeling the smooth stomach and burning skin.  "You're pretty hot," he mumbles (it's a bit out of place but he gets Kibum bucking into his touch so it's all right), "hotter than any other girl I've done."

And just as he coaxes Kibum to unbutton his pants and slide them down a bit with his legs and arms sprawled out beside him, the door is yanked open and Jinki stumbles in.

"Hey, where-oh."  Jonghyun lifts his head up first in bewilderment.  "Jonghyun?"

"Jinki?"

"Kibum?"

"Shit."

The three sit on the couch after everyone left at one in the morning, Jinki between the awkwardly squirming two and he gives them weary looks.  "Guys," he starts a bit tentatively, "it's not that I have a problem with it, it's just that-why my bed?"

Jonghyun sheepishly grins, "Because your room's always unlocked?"  Kibum rolls his eyes.

"Whatever," Jinki says with a grunt and then pushes himself off the couch, making his way to the kitchen to turn the lights off.  "I'm cleaning up in the morning.  And you guys are staying to help."

"Right," Jonghyun throws because he lacks the energy to rip himself off the sticky leather.  He casts a quick glance at the reddening raven and murmurs, "Are you staying?"

"Yeah."  Kibum checks his nails.  "Besides, we never finished."

Jonghyun's face brightens immediately and he sits up right, scoots down closer to the raven until he's leaning over him, lips wide and curled.  "I usually crash on the couch, so here?"

"Don't even think about it."

The two tense.

"Or at least just give me time to get up to my fucking room.  Christ."  The stomping of feet resides after a few seconds and a door slams shut.  Jonghyun blinks once, twice in the darkness before turning to face Kibum (and he can still see his eyes because they're a different shade of black, something purer and more beautiful).

"So."

"So."

"This was a first nice date."

"Shut up."

A pause.

"We should clear the cups first."

"Yeah."
