"He's taking forever!" Dawn wails.
"That's good," Spike returns from around his cigarette. "Means he respects you."
"Not for that! He's taking forever for anything!"
Spike considers the slow burn of his cigarette. He's never thought about it until that very moment, but love is like a good smoke. It's a slow, slow burn that lasts the longest. He burned for the Slayer a long time before he finally made his move; it still took them "forever", by Dawn's terms, to get things right. "That's good, too."
"No, it's not!" Dawn stomps her foot.
Spike just grins. One day, Nibblet'll understand.
