She walks slowly, quietly through the house that's been her home for her whole childhood but that tonight, suddenly, no longer feels safe. She's trying hard to not make a sound. Her heart's in her throat. She wets her lips, tightens her grip on her bat, and reminds herself again that Buffy's coming. She'll be here any second, but she has to make certain that whatever the sound is being caused by doesn't have her parents.
She rounds the corner to the kitchen, raising the bat high, and stops just short of smacking the faucet that's leaking. Her laughter echoes.
