Voices echo in her empty room. She stands in the center, hands on her hips, trying not to remember moments that never happened. Every time her mother comforted her when she was a sick child, every time she and Buffy hid underneath her sheets from storms, every time Buffy slipped into her room and held her while she cried because their parents were fighting again . . . They were all lies, fake memories implanted, but they don't make the pain any less real.
"You ready, Dawnie? Sure you haven't missed anything?"
She nods. Her sister's arms are real as they hug her tight.
