Thanks. I love Dawn and Spike. Her first reaction to him was a bit of crush. After the chip, he treated her like a person instead of a kid. They had a special relationship.

I think this is how Spike of that moment would think. Long before he really knew the Summers women well and before the chip. Even back then, I think he was interested in Buffy more than just as his third slayer kill. I think Joyce had impressed him interfering with him by hitting him with the ax defending Buffy. In Dawn, I think the Monks would have wanted him to defend her so they sparked some part of William in him, but it hadn't yet hit him.

I sort of imagined that this moment might help Spike on his path.

That his first reaction was tasty and then turned to a bit of affection for the girl.

I like to believe they bonded in that glance and smile.
