His return to Sunnydale had been supposed to serve one target and one only: vengeance. He had even forfeited this fresh chance at the Slayer, if such an effort would favor an encounter where he could strike first rather than Angelus.
He hadn't been supposed to become entangled in the games of the Slayer's friends, hadn't set out to make a bitterer enemy out of her than she'd been before he'd left town - and within a night of his return!
But whatever his plans towards Angelus, Spike had to admit, it was exhilarating to pit himself against the Slayer instead.
