Perhaps the thing Willow misses most is Tara‘s softness.
Soft-spoken. Soft-smiling. Soft-hearted. Soft-smooth skin. Soft kisses. In their hard-edged world of tough choices and stabbing pain, she was a breath of gentleness and humanity. That summer, taking her place with the rest in fighting on without Buffy, she even retained that softness in killing; apologising as she stabbed, sifting vampire dust with quiet regret.
Tara’s bed was soft too. She snuggled cosily in pillows, a down comforter, much-washed and faded patchwork quilt. Willow wants to be there now, hiding her head under feathery covers. Pretending her world still has softness.
