“Hypnotised by your beauty, my love. Don’t you enjoy a little worship?”
“Worship? Hardly. I know gawping when I see it.”
“You’re our Queen Mummy.” Darla tutted impatiently at Dru’s beaming announcement. Then stilled as she recognised the seer’s tones overtaking the madwoman’s.
“But not long to reign over us, no, no. Your line will fail. Woe to the house of Aurelius.”
A brief shiver. Then, “Really, the girl’s impossible. Can’t we do without her?”
“I’m not nearly finished with her yet. Let her play court fool a little longer, your majesty.”
