When he was small, his nanny warned him never to look into a mirror at night, or he’d see the face of the devil. He suspected it had more to do with keeping him in bed, than actual superstition, but at the time, he’d been terrified.
His seven-year-old mind conjured up unspeakable horrors that would be reflected there if he dared even risk a glance. He’d stubbed his toe countless times, wandering back from bathroom to bedroom with his eyes closed.
Giles blinked through blood, staring at the empty mirror behind Angelus. Turned out the devil didn’t have a reflection.
