Dear Family,

Cowards. All of you. Get your asses over here and comfort your mother. Stop hiding and leaving it to me. Yes, I love her. I'm her favorite grandchild, or so she has told me.

That means crap in this situation.

Her husband, your father, my grandfather, has died. Stay longer when you do come. Stay over night instead of asking if I can. Leaving it to me anyway, even if I say I have my animals to care for. All of you, save one, have children either grown and moved out, or old enough to be alone. Yes, my animals can be alone, too. However I have around thirty cages in need of cleaning. The birds are only getting fed once a day right now when they need it twice a day, and my poor dogs are spending way too much time in their cages. My house is siting without a person in it, and I know the neighbor children will be getting curious. That worries me.

Additionally, I want a little time alone. As the black sheep of the family I'd like to return to my hermit habits. Please and thank you. (Thanks for being cowards. Asshats.)

- The grumpy eldest granddaughter

P.S. Weak excuses such as "I want to be at home to get ready," would possibly work better if your hair wasn't even shorter than my cropped cut, and my little butch lesbian self wasn't a better dresser. Which is pitiful, really. I don't dress to impress anyone. Unless it's clubbing night.

P.P.S. Step-uncle, kindly stop your preaching. Do keep in mind my grandfather was less than a decade older than you, too. Stop hiding your fear with verses from the Bible and assurances that God knows how we feel for he watched his own Son die. That's not a comfort, just to let you know. Not everyone is as Bible-thumping as you. Most of the family leans non-church-going Christian anyway, other than the Preacher Uncle, and you even argue with him about the Bible. Amazing. . . On second thought, how about you engage my late, gay uncle's surviving lover in a Biblical discussion? Keep it outside. I promise you, he, and the drama you both carry around won't be much missed.
