Good news, good news

OMG! OMG! OMG! ...

... Is what my eldest daughter exclaimed when I read the letter over the phone to her which said she'd got a place at the Royal Vetinary College!

She was like a 5 year-old, bless her.  She was on the Orkney isles sheep shearing at the time (as bizarre as that sounds) this, ironically, being one of several activities she'd planned in the next six months to impress the colleges next year when she re-applied for post-graduate veterinary.  She was offered two places (at Bristol and Glasgow) this year, but really wanted Nottingham and the RVC (which are also a fifth of the cost!).
The RVC have apparently reviewed the number of places on their 'Accelerated BVetMed' (four years instead of five because of her zoology degree) and lo and behold, there's a place for her.

You can't imagine how releaved I am.  Being a vet is the only thing she's ever really wanted to do.

Well, if that wasn't great enough, the next day another letter came, this time for my eldest son, offering him a place on the music course at the local college/attached theatre (apparently the best in the country for this kind of course).  Especially good since he was convinced he'd fluffed his audition.  This is a son who dropped out of A levels four years ago and has been drifting from job to unemployment to job etc ever since.  With this qualification he could go to uni if he wanted, though I'd be quite happy for it to just give him a career.

Now, is it asking too much for my younger daughter to get a place at the same college?  She applied for a photography course (having dropped out of A levels four months ago - yes, history repeats itself!) but was a little (though not too) late in doing so.  The tutor who interviewed her was very taken by her photographs (and her GCSE results!) and told us that she was a much better candidate then many they'd already offered places too.  Only twenty places, and they offer them to the first twenty vaguely appropriate people -  a practice he clearly didn't agree with.  So, now she's got to wait for people to not turn up to the enrolment or not get the GCSEs needed or not turn up on the first day or not last the first six weeks.

She seems to be second on the waiting list so wish her luck / keep your fingers crossed / pray for her... or whatever it is you do.  Thanks!
