First of all, before the sunrise even, I had a BAGEL this weekend. Spain doesn't believe in bagels so it was an amazing surprise.
We went to Barcelona, which is gorgeous. 12 hours on a train, made use of the train bar and met an amusing drunken Spaniard who looked like Paul McCartney and kept buying us beer and made us almost miss the train at a layover and tried a million times to flip a cigarette into his mouth, then blamed his failure on the train. Our hostel smelled like fish but the strange men who worked there were nice enough, the city is open and throbbing with life, Gaudi everywhere, I climbed to the very top of the Segrada Familia cathedral, could see the ocean...finally tried absinthe, it's gross but interesting, dropped my flaming sugar lump on the floor...on the way home from the absinthe bar, snuck (¿sneaked?) all five of us into peep show and promptly got kicked out. The next day we went to the Dali museum and made my brain mush. If I were a computer geek like everyone else I would post some amazing pictures, but I don't have time, I have a Notions of Grammar exam to study for (sounds delicious, doesn't it...). Tried to get my friend Tricia to flash the street performer who just sits motionless in a box all night, to no avail. Then, the sunrise...Being on a train at sunrise on the coast of Spain is torture. Teasing glimpses of secret coves and sundrenched expanses flash by between the cement walls lining the tracks. All I want is to jump out and settle myself into the silk of the sand and stay forever.
Now I'm back in Granada (which is rainy) and it's exam week, yay. 12 more days...
