Calendar boxes on archive page

My archive page is kind of messed up. I think what I need to do is set the width of the calactitem class in the CSS, but when I do that it messes up the sidebar calendar. It says here that as a perm user I should be able to define a new class for one or the other, so how do I do that?

I'm using kunzite1's version of haffling's code, btw. Link to the layer.
