So yesterday I was sitting around at home waiting to go to work. It was about 20 minutes before I had to leave, and I started hearing thunder off to the west. The library is east of my house, so I thought, "hey, if I leave early, I might be able to beat this thunderstorm to the library." So I quickly got ready and left for work early.
It was already pretty dark and windy out. I was making pretty good speed, though, and the wind was at my back. I got about half way to work, and I looked back, and the sky was green! It looked so weird. It was like the sky out of Ghostbusters or something. And I could feel sparse rain drops hitting me. I was traveling straight east, and at an intersection ahead I could see this huge gust of wind blowing trash and dust. When I hit it, it practically blew me over. It was crazy. But I kept biking at a furious pace, hoping to at least avoid the rain. I made it across the river, and the wind was getting crazy and the rain was starting. I made it a couple blocks from the library, and I had to duck under a building. I didn't want to be out there when the front hit. Man, it rained hard! And then, about 5 minutes into it, it hailed really hard, too. So I checked the time, I had 9 minutes till work, so I waited under a building until it seemed to let up slightly. The rest of the couple streets wasn't so bad. The streets were flooded, though.
I got to work and changed into my rainy-day clothes I kept there. So I was dry, thank goodness. But a drainage pipe at the library had broke, and there was water flooding out of the elevators! It was pretty crazy. I guess that got it under control somehow.
The bike ride home was fine. Then it started pouring again, and the ceiling at our house started dripping in several places. So we got buckets under them, and then decided to check the basement out. Ugh, the basement was a mess! there was water pouring in from one of the basement windows. It was flowing into the inner part of the wall, because the window and outer wall don't exactly meet (due to our hasty construction of the basement room). So Brian and I are trying to figure out how so much water was getting in. We went outside, and our gutters had plants growing in them! Agh! so we had to clean them out.
Quite a mess...
