We saw the new insurance plan at work yesterday. For me to buy medical insurance for my husband and myself would cost two-thirds of my weekly paycheck in premiums. It would entirely cover routine visits (but I only go once a year for birth control and Matt never goes even if he should). If we needed something major, the deductible for a family is 10k. The premiums add up to over 10k/year. If we were to need lots of care, I would have to spend my entire annual income before taxes before the insurance would cover anything. This does not seem right. Tuesday I will apply for MaineCare.
