Slow Saturday

Yesterday wasn't that great. I was at work until eight at night, and wandered out into the night with the humiliating feeling that one of my classes of beautiful and vibrant little four and five year olds is going to eat me alive.

But this morning I woke to the swishing sound of lego being sorted, which was oddly and unexpectedly comforting. I watched Levi, drank tea, and planned in my head a social skills program, that might make life a little easier for all of us. It amazes me that some children can be so in touch, so empathic and observant, while for others connecting with other people on that level seems such an impossible goal.

Lily bounced over midmorning, with some very thoughtful gifts and her usual energy and sweetness, and Meredith came home from the grower's market laden with beautiful food. Instead of working on my job application I've been pottering about doing not too much, and it has been good.

Tonight I have the house to myself - for the first time in at least a couple of months. There is not much space in my life for quiet, and I am finding the sensation of solitude unexpectedly intense, but mostly in a good way. I have been burning candles and listening to the stillness.
