...another amazingly eventful five days of my life ( three really, two were spent in the car)
we ended up getting to new york about 2 in the morning, to get up at 7 to be at Columbia at 10. i drove a bunch and it was all good.
woke up, took a shower, met with my uncle for a little ( he was staying at the same hotel for a Sader *sp* they were attending the night before), and left for Columbia. we were a little late for the info session, but oh well. good thing the hotel was right across the GW bridge from Columbia. we parked, walked to the info session with another family, who was also late. They were from Jersey and the girl was my age and really nice.
i got in the lecture hall ( if anyone's seen Mona Lisa Smile, it's the one with the slideshow scene) sat on the floor, the place was packed! i listened and enjoyed. we decided not to take the tour and just kinda milled around. we ate breakfast and then after more milling decided to head down to NYU.
we got on the subway, took it down to 8th ave, and met my uncle again, this time with my aunt and thier son. we drove around a bit and they dropped us off at GW square. we walked around the square, took a bunch of pics and decided we were hungry. we ended up eating at this place that specialized in burgers and homemade soup. you could feel the subway rumbling beneath you. we decided we were pretty tired at rode the subway back up to Columbia. we found the car and drove out of the city. we ended up getting to DC at about 10:30 and passed out.
I woke up on Saturday did some little things around the house for my grandmother, my mom and i took a long walk through my grandmother's neighborhood ( which is gorgeous in the spring!)
we then decided to go to a MLS ( major league soccer) game that night. DC United v. Houston Dynamo. ( sweet!) we got back home, ate dinner at took the Metro over to the RFK stadium. we got there a little late, but in any event, we got free soccer balls! I've never been to an MLS game and it was a lot of fun. very cool. it was a good game, we won!
came home, went to bed. EASTER MORNING! yay. i ate three cookies upon waking up. it was great. then we went to church, got my praise on. i love that church. very cool. went to go see my grandfather, as they say. it's really unnerving how the tombstone has both his name and when he was born and died and her name and when she was born, but she's not dead so there's a blank spot. it's like they're just waiting for her. it's not fair. a
we got back home, my mom and i colored some eggs and got ready for a big dinner feast w/ everybody. that went well. everybody is good and making plans to come up for Ian's open house, so most of you will probably meet them. everyone dispersed and i was tired. i went to bed only to wake up this morning at about 6. my dad took my brother to the airport ( his flight left at 6). today is also my dad's birthday. My brother didnt even say goodbye. no hug, no thanks dad, no happy birthday, no i'll miss you, no "thanks for buying me this ticket and letting me go to London". nothing. that's what my brother is becoming to me these days...nothing, just another person. maybe one day he'll understand what family is, but I'm not counting on it. that really breaks my heart. i guess i shouldnt waste my time.
anyways, since then I've been on the road. just me and the parentals. I drove from the beginning of Ohio until home, and that's a long way.
its crazy how much you can really do in five days.
