Yes We Can!

I was deliberately late to Humanities yesterday so I could watch Obama get sworn in. It's the school's fault for putting us on a late-start schedule which puts many people's classes right at the airing of the inauguration. And if my professor had any sort of common sense he would've canceled class anyway. I mean, the man's a history professor. Shouldn't he be watching it, too?

But anyway: Yes We Can! =D

I also declared Classics as my major last week. Greek and Latin concentration, since my advisor tells me that even if I don't want to go to grad school for Classics, that's the best concentration to do. It took about two seconds. I had expected more, somehow. But it's done, and I think I'm going to do just a regular Literature minor instead of the Creative Writing thing, since I convinced myself it's not good to narrow yourself down too much, plus I can take all the creative writing classes I want anyway.

So if anyone is interested (unlikely) my classes this semester are:

Renaissance to Enlightenment Literature
Greek II
Astronomy
Humanities 324 (last one until my senior year!) and
Ancient Sexuality

I'm seriously considering becoming an editor of some kind. I've found that the older I get, the idea of moving to a big city like New York and living in an apartment and walking all over the place and being amongst fabulous architecture and all that great stuff becomes more and more appealing. I think it would almost be the epitome of awesome to become an editor for some big publishing company and get to read people's books during work, and then write my own in my off-time.

I'll have to research what kind of education you'd need to do that.

In other news, I am ultra-excited that a Classics major includes classes on translating Homer, etc. from the original Greek. I mean, how cool is that? It's like being able to read Crime and Punishment in the original Russian.
