Talk about an awsome day..

well... today was an unexpectedly awsome day.
I went to work, as usual, and there is a horse (Foxy) whom was due to give birth 3 weeks ago. Every Sunday I go to work I am all excited to see a foal, and every week (so far) I had been disapointed. Any how.... There was no foal this morning.

I work with a girl named Cynthia. So Cynthia and I turned out and fed all the horses, mucked the stalls, and swept the barn. Danny (another guy I worked with) showed up and asked how Foxy was. Apparently the night before (he told us) Foxy was showing signs of labour, so he said she would probably foal tonight. So we go on a coffe break with Kate (my boss) and we notice that Foxy is going crazy outside. We brought her inside to be looked at.

Mike (Kate's husband and a proffectional breeder) says that Foxy is definatly going to foal tonight. Anyways so Cynthia and I went for lunch, and when we got back Foxy was in full labour. She is a maiden mare (meaning she had never had a foal before), and she looked so scared. She layed down and got up a bunch of times, and mike checked the foals position. It was upsidedown, so he twisted it around with his arms. At this point the foot was sticking out.

Over the next 15 minutes, the foal slowly came out. It is a chestnut (light brown) with 4 white legs and a big white stripe on its face. It is a colt (meaning baby boy). And he is uber cute. The next 3 hours of my day were spent watching him try to get up, and his mommy licking him. I left when he was being fed his first bottle of colostum (the mare's first day supply of milk).

Any ways, long story short, I got to see the birth of a baby foal ^_^ and I am now in an uber good mood.
