Year End Quiz!

Jan 01, 2008 00:49

Here we go, one more year! (4th year running now!) You guys should try it. Anyway, on with the show!

1. What did you do in 2007 that you'd never done before?
What a year it has been. Man, I had just finished writing out this long list of things that I had done this year when an accidental press on a page-back button erased all my hard fought progress, so rather then carefully troll through my blog once again I will rely on my incredibly weak memory. God help us all.

So, what did I do this year that I’ve never done before? I participated in a fundraiser for the mueseaum of Human Rights. I got a Wii. I bought a car. I did a show in New York, putting on a grand total of 6 shows this year. I did my first professional reading (for MTC), won the professional division of the Carol Shields Instaplay and washed out on writing my YEPP play. I wrote 3 other plays, two of which were performed at the same time and performed in my first Shakespearean and Greek play. I got a Wii, travelled to Texas and Mexico and saw my first real life dolphin. I did shrooms for the first time. I got a regular gig doing voice over work! I dated two girls in the same year and hey, I moved out. I’m POSITIVE that I’m forgetting things (like the fact that I went 10 pin bowling for the first time!) but frankly that’s a pretty respectable list and I can deal with the omissions.

2. Did you keep your New Years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
From last year: “1) To get cast in another professional show 2)To get in a relationship 3)To make good on my plans to move to Vancouver should the summer audition season not go well for me.”

Well, I did not get cast in an “official” professional play, although I was approved by Equity for all 6 shows this year, so on paper I’m doing great. Still, despite several call backs and the like I didn’t get any work with the major theatres, so boo-urns to me. I managed to do number 2 TWICE however, so does that make up for failing on the first one? Sometimes I think that relationships aren’t super important to me, but then I end up writing things like that second resolution and I have to admit that they are indeed quite essential. Finally, I did not go through with number 3, although my reasons for doing so have been work, so I don’t feel particularly bad about it. Now, once my voice-over work is done then I do need to think about what my future career plans are. Yikes.

So, to set some resolutions for next year: 1) To get cast in another professional show 2)To put on 5 pounds of muscle 3)To write another one-man show 4)To travel back to New York.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
My cousin Jason and his wife Cathy had another little one, Aaron, and I would be remiss if I didn’t point out that I neglected to mention that my cousin Kim had a kid last year, the day after I posted my quiz. Other than that I don’t think there was anyone else, but if there was and they see this I’m sure I’ll get the crap beaten out of me for my neglect.

4. Did anyone close to you die?
My uncle George did indeed pass away, on Christmas eve. Thankfully we were all able to see him before he was gone and I’ll remember him always. Nobody else has died this year, although my Auntie Kiko has also not been doing too great. Hopefully she’ll recover well from her amputation and will stick with us a while longer.

5. What countries did you visit?
From last year: " For next year, a possible return to New York in March, and probably not going to Los Vegas with Erinn in Feburary.”

I did end up going to New York, and instead of Los Vegas went to Texas and Mexico which was good as well. And now, a return to Hawaii! The only travel plans I have now is a trip to Montreal and New York with Erin, but I would hope that I could fit in another trip or two. Fingers crossed.

6. What would you like to have in 2008 that you lacked in 2007?
Honestly, other than a more stable professional life I have nothing lacking at the moment. Not even the Nintendo Wii I moaned about last year. Now I would  like a 360 to play Mass Effect and BioShock on, but I can obviously survive without them.

7. What date from 2006 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
No great dates, although Uncle passing away on Christmas Eve was pretty big. Other than that? Nothing comes to mind.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
From last year: “The experience that was [my] one man show… How do I top that?” How about playing that show in NEW FREAKING YORK? Or meeting Stephen Colbert? Both were pretty awesome.

9. What was your biggest failure?
There were a few auditions that I didn’t do to well on, and in retrospect I think things with Andrea could have gone better for both of us. Still, live and learn and all that.

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
From last year: “I rolled my ankle at Anita's birthday party and it STILL hasn't totally healed up. It is doing much better however and I expect it to be back to 100% by Feb.” Uh, yeah, totally not the case. Dammit. Other than that however, I’ve been in good health. Uh, except for the time I threw my back out moving a case at work. It got better quick.

11. What was the best thing you bought?
I got a car, which all in all has been a pretty cheap investment (for a car!).  I liked my DS so much that I ended up buying TWO of the damn things this year. If the one I lost ever shows up I will be both relived and pissed off. Well, more relived at this point, but still, COME ON!

12. Whose behaviour merited celebration?
I’m awesome. Uh, other than that…. Seeing Gail at work the other month was inspiring. Keep fighting Gail! You will beat that cancer! Erin was been really great in my life. And Sean! Keep writing Sean! And singing Karaoke! And inviting me!

13. Whose behaviour made you appalled and depressed?
I feel like there were a couple of people… Oh, wait, it’s coming to me. There was a co-worker who I’ve had a few head-butts with. People who flake out. Passive aggressive jerks. …myself… Uh, I mean, I’m awesome!

14. Where did most of your money go?
Trips, food, car, video games. The usual, really.

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Getting my voice over work. Going back to New York. The buzz TBTR got. Folkfest.

16. What song will always remind you of 2007?
Final Fantasy’s “He Poos Clouds”. I saw him live and it was AMAZING.

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
i. happier or sadder? Happier. Life is good!
ii. thinner or fatter? Thinner, maybe, although I have put on some muscle since I’ve begun frequenting the gym.
iii. richer or poorer? About the same, although I am spending more money then I was last year. Earning more as well. Let’s call it even!

18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
Writing. Taking care of myself. Thinking.

19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Procrastinating. Moping.

20. How will you be spending Christmas?
Right, so apparently I’m supposed to do this before Christmas, which I forgot. I spent it with my family.  (Awww)

21. How will you be spending New Years?
In Hawaii with my family! It’s currently hours away!

22. Did you fall in love in 2006?
Twice, which was weird but who can control the wild contortions of the heart?

23. How many one-night stands?
None, although I did almost have one. It’s really not close to as cool a story as the one night stand that I did have. Oh well.

24. What was your favorite TV program?
Lost is still the king, but DEXTER, holy crap, it’s so damn good. Heroes took a dive in quality, but the Office was still awesome. That pretty much covers all my TV.

25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
Nope, and in fact I’ve buried a couple of hachets. Yay for my peace loving hippy ways.

26. What was the best book you read?
I read a bunch of good books. Long Way Gone was fantastic and the latest Scott Pilgrim was an orgy of awesome in my brain. I also read Life of Pi that was totally worth all the hype.

27. What was your greatest musical discovery?
Final Fantasy, again. Man oh man was that guy amazing. The Meligrove Band was also pretty damn cool.

28. What did you want and get?
A Wii. A Girlfriend.

29. What did you want and not get?
Another professional show. More money. Easy answers.

30. What was your favorite film of this year?
Grindhouse is the only one that really comes to mind, although I’m sure there are more. Still, that chase scene… TRANCENDANT.

31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I turned 24 and had one last house party as well as a Karaoke party the day before. Tons of fun. The only gift I can remember is Andrea getting me a copy of Absolute Sandman, which egged on my trade collecting obsession.

32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Not to sound like a broken record, but getting another professional show. It really drags you down getting rejection after rejection.

33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2007?
More hoodies, nicer jeans and some better summer clothes. That’s it.

34. What kept you sane?
Huh. The same as last year: Writing. Having people to talk to. Acting. People letting me know that they think I can do it.

35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
Nobody really. For the record the girl last year was Rachel McAdams and she IS adorable.

36. What political issue stirred you the most?
More Iraq. God, let it end!

37. Who did you miss?
My little sister Jane. She’s back now and actually sitting right beside me waiting to use the computer. Yay!

38. Who was the best new person you met?
Cheers to you Andrea!

39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2006:
This too shall pass.
40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:
”Gonna find and kill my shadow self, gonna dig up every secret sea shell”
So there we go. Another year gone. All the best for the next one!
