-Upcoming commission!
-Worrisome weekend.
I believe I've completed my emoticons for my journal. A little more time consuming than I would have liked them to be, but I'm really pleased on how they came out. Only draw back is that I made them slightly larger than what my journal will post so they're squished a little. I'm not worried about it. That's one thing to mark off my list.
I went over to my parents' like I said in Saturday's post. I really enjoyed myself. I watched my mom make fandant icing. Which like I said before, she's really excited about. She wants to make my son, for his 2nd birthday, an Elmo cake. And Elmo will be molded on the top with balloons (which will be blown sugar). I sketched it out for her so there is something to compare. She came into work today to say that she's finally figured out a successful recipe; that she also did a test mold for Elmo. I can't wait to check it out. I'm going to go over there to see if I can help with getting his proportion right.
I also helped Dad buy his own .org. Which was craziness all in itself. One word of advice from a graphic designer/artist: Don't go with Godaddy.com! They charge you more money than what it's worth! If you do a little researching you can find another host more reasonable than godaddy. Godaddy charges about $110 a year for hosting! The domain is about $30 all by itself! Then you have to buy the space everything else to create the pages separate! And the cheapest will only give you about 5 pages worth and about 500gb for space. That's actually not a whole lot. I found a company called cirtex which gives you a deal of about $85 for two years and gives you unlimited space and bandwidth! So do your research. Going with popularity can screw ya!
He's asked me to design his layout. I have been bantering to myself back and forth on what I want it to look like. I think I finally have a rough draft. I wanted to get into creating the graphics but it looks like I'll have to put that off until tomorrow since it's getting late. If you do want to watch my progress with his site you can go here:
http://karakidomartialarts.org I think I finally have the drive to get these things done. I'm going to try to juggle designing for my father's website and for designing mine. It will be good practice in trying to complete more than one project at a time. I get really stressed about having so much on my plate; I think the more I try the easier it'll get for me. I'll be able to apply the practice in the work place.
I also got a commission request today from an associate at work. He says he wants it to be a pretty decent size piece. I don't know exactly what he wants. He informed me that he'll get me the URL to look at the reference tomorrow. Then we'll talk size, materials, and price. I honestly get really nervous about doing commission work. Since I'm still so new at selling I still don't have a stone price on things. I don't really grasp the idea of how much a piece of mine is worth. It's intimidating.
You know I know I said this will be strictly about my art journey but I have to say that I'm really nervous about my son's birthday party this weekend! It's supposedly going to snow! It snowed last year on his birthday and I don't want to go through with this a second time; I hope it misses us. This is starting to look like a very inconvenient repeat. I will be so upset if it does happen.
