D3 or how I spent a frustrating afternoon while sick

So I have Diablo 3 and I've played through on a Witch Doctor character once on normal a week or so ago. Then I got my ass handed to me on the next difficulty because I don't have the spare cash to spend hundreds of thousands of in game gold on appropriate itemized and leveled items. Most of my gear is -10 levels of my character, because that's what drops from the content I can do. I started another character so I could gain some more money, play a bit smarter, have some pass me downs and gather a few more gems. Witch Doctors need INT gems; I went with a Demon Hunter who needs AGI gems.

So today I was playing my new Demon Hunter who is now on act 4 on normal. She's got the same issues as my first character but it's worse. My Witch Doctor has a horde of minions to soak up damage and hits, on harder enemies they die pretty fast but I still manage somehow. Without those minions I'm in a really cheap fight that I can't win. Literally I can't win because I die in two hits. I tried kiting and then the adds on that fight do a knockback and stun so I'm dead regardless (in two hits). There might be a magical combination of attacks and runes that might get me through that fight but I doubt it. I need better gear with some VIT maybe and more attack power and more DEF...

This whole thing pisses me off because even before the first playthrough it's become a gear grind. Like raid level annoying: where you need to gear up before you can get to the next act(tier) so you can do it all over again and again and again. I know that was part of the first two Diablo games but it was never die in two hits because you want to tickle the next boss difficulty, especially on normal. The game (D3) is entirely gear based, I'm not even sure if you get more health by leveling up. If so it's a paltry amount.

I can understand having the game be that cheap on the third or even fourth difficulty, but on normal? seriously? Blizzard, re-tune that shit.

I know you want it so that people will be willing to blow lots and lots of money on the RMAH but you're going to loose players before then.

Maybe it's because I'm a bit sick right now that it annoys me so much, but I'm sure even if it wasn't I would still be annoyed.

I guess I need to do some more Diablo runs on normal with my Witch Doctor so I can gear up my Demon Hunter. Or maybe make a third-fifth character to play. It seems wrong. And even if I had the day off because I'm sick, my time is still precious enough that after my 5th death I said screw it and quit the game.
