Warm Fall Day

Nov 06, 2010 21:31

Oohay go to one of favorite places to see pond-birds etc. Ducks, geese, etc. as is always there. Also wanted to see if dragonflies still flit about in sunlight as Fall proceeds towards Winter.

Many "skimmers" of "meadowhawk" type, but all seemed ... tired.
Almost always on ground, warm ground where sun still shines. If fly, only briefly.
Many with heads drooping, touching down to ground or on twig.
Crystal-like wings still glisten in sunlight, but wings ragged, often damaged-looking.

At first, Oohay try to get closer to some, to see them better.
But realize that when do so, tired dragonflies must fly up and away from "danger", use what little energy they appear to have.
So, Oohay leave them in peace, view only from distance, not bother or annoy.

As nights now can freeze, wonder if today's sun is last sun these dragonflies will feel on their bodies, on their wings, soothing sunlight. Perhaps tonight is freeze, is end of time on this earth for them.

If so, hoping last flight, last dance was good, was enjoyable, and that merciful God call them home.

Be kind to animal.
