Oohay travel to visit mother in south of country (and brother, too). Mother almost have no more hearing, so must use notepad, write large. But also cannot see (clouded eyes) very well, so difficult to talk, discuss. First day, she asked questions like "So, did you ever get married?" and "Did you have children?". Some of this is effect of being 90 years old, but some is effect of being in a place where she is shut off too much. Second day, mother would say "Is Zilfa's boyfriend now done with school and finding job?" - indications of still functioning mind.
Oohay took her out on rainy day to shoreline, pushed her in her wheelchair along boardwalk overlooking waters and marsh, looking at birds and boats. Before could return to vehicle, caught in rain and took shelter in small building along boardwalk. First time she has felt rain on her in probably a decade or more.
Sat on porch of her residence, watching comings and goings, petting neighborhood cats, simply spending time together. Is real chance that such time is going to be in short supply in near future, so must accept what life brings and treasure little things when possible.
Also visited with Latchka's parents, good people both. All Latchka's sisters were there, some with families, some not, but it was enjoyable to see all of them again. All sisters and their husbands working hard to ensure financial stability of tobacco companies, with notable exception of Oohay. Ping-pong games in garage was order of the day, as well as a few visits to ocean (never enough). Again, reason to relish chance to see them all.
Also travel to west, once yearly trip in company of good friends. This year, many of usual suspects could not go, and Oohay decide to do things differently this year. Spent more time doing quiet things alone, less time in typical wild social whirl. Early morning bird watching is fine tonic for soul, and for negate the effects of being in place with way too many people.
Finally, Oohay wish to impart small wisdom to dear reader. Daputtie the cat threw up on carpet, threw up hairball and most of that mornings breakfast fish. Oohay had fleeting chance to pick her up and place her on tiled floor instead of carpet, but did not do so (she was in enough discomfort, so the thought went). Juicy, stinky vomit, ultra-fish smell. Now, even though carpet has been cleaned three times, still the aroma assaults the nose of all who enter room, or even pass by too close to it. So, here is wisdom: move the cat before she up-chucks! Unless fishy vomit catfood stench is your pleasure.
