Finally, it's done and she gets to hold her second baby in her arms. She's exhausted and a bit teary, but she's done it, and she's done well, and he's here now. He's actually here. She cradles him against her breast and breathes in the scene of the top of his head.

Her baby. Her boy.

She looks up, tears shining in her eyes.

"Oh, Eddie," she

Eddie was a little bit shellshocked by the whole experience, since he'd missed this part last time, but it's amazing and scary and awesome all at the same time. And Lil looks exhausted.

"He's perfect," he said. "I even counted his fingers and toes, just to make sure."

"Of course he's perfect. He's ours." Lily's not so naive (and she's been present at enough births) to know that that isn't always the case, but for now, for her baby and her husband, she'd make allowances.

"Do you want to hold him?"

"Are you sure?" said Eddie, and he'd held newborns before, but he'd never held his newborn before. "You're willing to let go?"

"Maybe just to you for now," says Lily, shifting her position in the bed so that it'll be easier for Eddie to take the baby out of her arms.

"He's as much yours as he is mine, Eddie."

"I feel like maybe you worked a little harder," said Eddie, but then that was all the more reason to do his part now. He was just lucky that doing his part was doing what he wanted to do more than anything. "Come here, little guy. It's good to finally meet you."

"Maybe just on this little bit," she admits, leaning back against the pillows once Dylan is safely in his Daddy's arms. She can't remember ever being this exhusted, not even after Emmy was born. She stifles a yawn against the back of her hand.

"You should sleep now," said Eddie, holding Dylan ever so carefully and looking down at his tiny, tiny face. Perfect. "I've got him now. It's okay."
