Lyn had tried not to let her weakness show for pride and morale's sake. Her body's natural cycle was sapping her speed and energy, though, and she had narrowly avoided losing her head to an axe in the last battle. Mark had flagged her down and they had discussed the matter-- and, despite her arguments that she was still a capable warrior, he asked that she sit this one out. She had, at the least, convinced him to let her patrol the camp for intruders while the battle raged.

She was making her second pass by the heavily-forested side of camp when she froze and her hand fell to the sword at her side. Something had moved-- someone was-

"Draw your sword, daughter of the plains, and you may not live to sheath it again."

A swordsman stepped out of the shadows of the trees, his own blade glistening with blood. Lyn was prepared for battle until recognition dawned-- Karel, a fellow Sacean. In his off hand he was holding the mangled bodies of what once must have been woodland creatures-- rabbits, judging by the size. Three of them.

"Karel," she murmured, relaxing some. She wouldn't drop her guard, not yet-- the already-eccentric man was given to bouts of dangerous insanity, and she wasn't going to let her body's weakness addle her brains. "Must you always... appear so suddenly? And why the..." She motioned to the dripping bodies hanging from his hand.

He raised them and looked at them idly, like he hadn't realized they were there and didn't particularly care either way, before setting them on the ground and working to clean his blade.

"Rabbit stew for supper tonight," he said as though that answered both her questions.

As he finished cleaning the blood from his blade and sheathed it, he was silent. He spoke again after a few moments, his voice low and rough as though the words were difficult to force out.

"I have a request to make, Lyndis. I have been kept from battle for days, now, and my whole being thirsts for blood."

Lyn started slightly, despite herself. That was- well, abrupt. But Karel never was one for pussyfooting about the situation, was he?

"And you're making this request of me... for what reason?"

In an instant, Karel was almost uncomfortably close to her, just short of leering, teeth bared in an animal grin.

"I am not blind to your situation, Lyndis. Your scent is hypnotic; you've been tempting me for days, and now I finally have you in private."

She wasn't frightened, though she was loathe to let her guard down around this man, even for a second. But she was rattled. Was he asking-- no, of course not. She was unclean in this state, at least to the men she'd been with before.

"And what is it you're asking of me, Sword Demon?" She murmured, shoulders back and green eyes proud. She tensed as his hand pressed to her belly, sliding slowly downwards until his hand was just barely cupped against her, pressing the fabric against her skin.

"Nothing more than a taste. Slake my thirst for blood, prevent the madness from overtaking me, and in return I give you pleasure. Do we have an agreement, Lyndis?"

"I--" The plainswoman paused for a moment, curious. She- she knew there were ways to ease the pain and discomfort of her... condition, but to offer herself so readily to a man...?

She placed one strong hand over his and tugged him towards the trees, making her decision faster than she had thought she would.

"In the trees, come now-- I don't want this done where prying eyes can see."
