When I was on the official web page, it's true that my eyes flew across the "新作ヴァージョン” (new version) and completely missed the "収録” (recording). But, in addition to meaning "recording" can't it also mean "compilation"? I see examples in my dictionary of that word being used to mention items included on a DVD.
Example sentences: "DVD側はプロモーションビデオやアーティストのインタビューなど、さまざまな情報を収録できます。 The DVD side can include various information including promotional videos and artist interviews."
"DVDにはそれぞれ、1930年代から1960年代に制作された洋画が一本収録されています。 Each DVD features a foreign film produced from the 1930s to 1960s"
Also, doesn't "映像特典" mean "bonus footage"?
"特典映像 【とくてんえいぞう】 (n) bonus footage (e.g. behind-the-scenes interviews), such as that included on DVDs of movies, television programs, etc"
So, I'm kind of inclined to think that they are not just redubbing it, but redoing it totally. Of course, I'm not a native speaker of Japanese, so I could be totally wrong...
Honestly, I don't know WHY they are redoing a scene, or why they chose that particular one, but I'm sure we'll all still eat it up anyways, heh.
On the commercial movie for this new DVD it's written "三橋のバースデーシーンを新たに収録". In animation i have always seen the term 収録 for dubbing or mixing. 特典映像 is probably referred to trailers (for example the above commercial movie).
Here's the announcement on the website:
"映像特典として、第10話の三橋の誕生日シーンを新作ヴァージョンで収録予定。"
