[COOKING WITH THE WINDOW OPEN? Good enough for him as he peeks in. Well, he knocks on the side of the window first, so he doesn't seem like a creeper.]

[ Nope, she's not drunk, not by a long shot, but she's comfortable in the kitchen. ]

[ Roasted peppers and onions are cooling on the counter as she is cutting up the chickens very enthusiastically.

What are you making in here? Smells pretty good.

Pollo en Mole Rojo, it translates to chicken in red sauce. Something my aunt taught me while I was in San Antonio.

[ Still disassembling the first chicken. Her knife skills are solid, here. ]

Even as Anglo as this town is, I was able to find most of the spices and such for a passable version of the mole.

Oh right, that bird meat. If it tastes as good as it smells, I wouldn't mind having a sample.

[ She finishes dismembering the chicken and puts the pieces in the paper bag on the counter, then washes her hands. ]

What's a sangria? Getting past that might be the first part to answering your question.

Wine, for the most part, with some citrus fruit added to take the edge off the taste of leaf-and-stem some of the local wines tend to have.

[ She pours a half-glass from the pitcher in the icebox for him to taste. There is another pitcher of the stuff in the icebox behind the first. ]

Have a taste. I managed to get an average cabernet, so I think it turned out pretty well.

Not half bad. Probably about the best you can do restricted to ingredients on Terra.

I'd say I can probably tweak it a bit more at home, but this is the best I can do in Mayfield for now.

[ She tops off his glass and puts the pitch re back in the icebox. ]

So, what are we missing by being limited to Terra?

There's a whole universe of things out there. I don't think I can really pick my favorite out of all of them.

And I thought I had it bad by being pulled out of a multicultural metropolitan center and dumped here.

This place is pretty bland but it's a good kind of bland. At least I can relax.

I've heard that from a lot of people. Makes me wonder if that's the norm or just a coincidence.

I can't speak for other people but it's frakking true for me.

Almost as if there were a mass post-traumatic stress reaction, but that wouldn't make sense, with so many different worlds being involved.
