The Subject Was Chilis

[ There have been better Saturday mornings, even in Mayfield. ]

[ Ilsa reacted to the events in an established pattern, for her - cooking. ]

[ After an early-morning run to the store, when there were only the drones to deal with at the general store, she's been in the kitchen most of the day making comfort food. Lots of it. With varying degrees ( Read more... )

[Well, Iskierka might not know what phones are, but she does have a nose!

...more specifically a tongue, which the pony-sized dragon is following around like an enormous snake. Something smelled like peppers! She rather liked peppers.

Despite her lingering apprehension about there being giants around (giants in Iskierka's utterly unbiased opinion), the dragon clambered over a fence and poked her head up at the nearest window, attempting to see inside.]

[ The window nearest the stove is over the sink. It might also smell of cat-feet, as that's the place they tend to enter the house. ]

[ There is a woman who catches sight of the movement outside the window, and raises her finger. A small witch-light appears on her fingertip, and dances toward the window. ]

[Iskierka picks up the movement quickly, but she's...not quite sure what she is looking at when her eyes get there. The dragon twitches her head back a bit, then around and to the left and right, trying to follow that moving thing.]

[ The window opens slightly, and a bowl of chili is set on the window-ledge while the witch-light plays with the dragon. ]

[Large dragon breeds tended to be on the farsighted side; Iskierka, being a Kazilik, was no exception--though her farsightedness wasn't nearly as bad as, say, a Regal Copper.

But it was still enough to keep darting and twitching her head around to try and see just what that moving thing w--there it g--wait no.]

Come back here!

[So focused is the dragon on this new quest that she hasn't noticed the food yet.]

[ The little will-o-wisp stops dancing to rest on the bowl of chili on the windowsill, then winks out. ]

[--the light disappeared! But:]

Oh. Well then.

[There was now food. This was an acceptable tradeoff. Iskierka sniffs at the bowl in a cursory manner--yes! This was where the pepper-smell was coming from!

Without much hesitation, the small dragon promptly buried her muzzle in the bowl to eat.]

[ Ilsa watches the dragon eating, waiting until she is finished before speaking. ]

Hello, there.

[Iskierka's made a bit of a mess by then--mostly on her face. Though she doesn't seem to mind terribly much, except that there's more sauce on her face that clearly belongs in her mouth, which her tongue is lolling at.

Consequently her first vocalization upon being addressed is something close to a quack.]

-oh, hello.

Would you like another bowl, or perhaps something to drink?
