Samantha Ray doesn't remember her life before she was found as a wandering, abused runaway outside of Victorville, CA. Taken in and raised by the nurse who treated her, Sam has had a relatively ideal life for all that she can remember of it. Still the questions always lingered of who she was and where she came from, and if anyone ever looked for her.
The questions only intensified when the shadows followed her. At first she didn't even realize she did it, pulling the darkness around her in moments she wanted to escape or slip away. It proved useful for Sam's curious nature, allowing her to slip in and out of the darkness without anyone the wiser. It has made life as a budding journalist interesting.
Moving to New York seemed like a logical step for Sam for several reasons. Columbia School of Journalism beckoned, as did the career opportunities. But it was also a place for new beginnings. As much as Sam is grateful to the Rays, she can't help but wonder about if her real family is out there. And New York seems as good a place to start.
