i have a real love/hate relationship with philosophy.
sometimes when i'm doing it i can have the most surreal, sublime moments. a piece of writing about life or causality, about absurdity or the way we think about ourselves as being selves can be the most beautiful thing to me. and at other times it's all just one giant headache.
i'm doing schopenhauer at the moment and he just delivers smackdown after smackdown.
"Stupid people cannot see the inter-connections between natural phenomena, either when these phenomena occur on their own or when they are consciously controlled, that is, pressed into service as machines; they therefore easily believe in magic and miracles. Stupid people do not notice that others who appear to be acting independently may in fact have made previous arrangements with each other. This is why they are quickly baffled and make easy targets for intrigues; they do no not see that someone may have an ulterior motive when giving advice or proffering an opinion."
i love this dude. he just fanboys over kant and snarks to everyone else. also he incorporates indian philosophy into his metaphysics for which i will adore him forever for doing. it's so cool to read about maya again and the vedas - it's been years.
what i'd really like to know is how everyone else feels about their major? i know people's relationship with their study changes over the three-five years we have to take them, so yeah... tell me.
