Sandwich tax

Sep 09, 2010 10:20

How is it that the end of a temporary tax cut is now equated with a new tax (re: "taxing the rich")? I charge you $5 for a sandwich. I say, hey, you're capable of buying a lot of sandwiches, I'm only going to charge you $4 to motivate you to come to my deli more often. You don't come to my deli more often, you just pocket the extra $1 because you only need one sandwich now, and who knows if you'll be extra-hungry later? Since you aren't buying more sandwiches, I raise the price back up to $5. Am I now charging you an unprecedented extra dollar?
