So there was this thing on the news today about a woman who had a stroke and has spent the last 6 years in what the doctors call a persistent vegitative state. And then she woke up. The doctors don't know why or how and were quoted as saying this was a "mystical" event. She's perfectly lucid and able to talk and stuff, though.
This really makes me wonder about the whole Terry Schiavo thing. I've forgotten a lot of details about it and I never knew who to believe about what her condition really was even at the time, but even the doctors couldn't agree on what her brain scans meant. Personally, I think that even if there was absolutely no hope of her ever waking up, even if she specifically stated beforehand that she didn't want to be kept alive in such a situation, that they could've at least put her out of her misery in a more humane way. I mean, they didn't want to give her some lethal drug because the idea was morally reprehensible, but isn't letting someone starve to death morally reprehensible too? Especially when it wasn't certain whether she could feel it happening or not.
Anyway, I can't really concentrate enough to say anything particularly meaningful here, I just wanted to say something.
