I feel bad. Jeff, my stepdad is going into a Alzheimer’s facility in May. He is already reaching the second stage, and has a lot of anger issues, but, if you had had to deal with some of the abuse he has, you’d be angry to, and to have to relieve those years again and be so confused! He does well with his younger years but, you can tell him something and then wait 10 minutes and he has no clue. Sometimes he’s calling my mom his mother’s name. I feel so bad for him.
Then, at work tonight one of the girls said that she had a hard time calling Psychiatrists doctors! She said they only treat people with illnesses of the head.
I looked at her and said you do realize that’s my major and what I am very well rehearsed and knowledgeable with right? And right away I started to challenge her. Do you guys remember when I was almost against… well I was against medication? Well, now, I know that it MUST be used in conjunction with therapy NEVER alone. For instance, sometimes therapy alone isn’t enough, but, medication alone IS NEVER ENOUGH, unless it’s strictly chemically based. So, I said, OK… what is your stance then on people with illnesses such as Bi-Polar? This is NOT an illness that’s brought on by a boyfriend breaking up with you, or someone making fun of your misfortunes. Mental illness is FAR more than that, and YES, it’s the head that psychology deals with, but it doesn’t end there. MANY people struggle and suffer because of chemicals not because of problems. But, yes, some struggle because of struggles, and problems, and yes, we work on those issues, but these illnesses, actually cause and lead to medical emergencies and problems in what you would consider medical and not just in their heads. She sat there a while and said, “wow… you really know what you’re talking about. How many more years do you have? It seems like you could graduate and be a better psychiatrist than some!” I told her, I don’t want to be a Psychiatrist, I want to be only ONE step below them so that I can actually do patient care and not just administer medication and have SHORT talks of really no more than 15 minutes!
I have this annoying twitch in my left eye! It’s ANNOYING!
oh and I started just looking at housing in Arizona and California!
Arizona has AWESOME deals and cute places! It had this Tuscan look and tiles and all furnished and pet friendly and AND included all utilities! By U of A!
California in Eureka close to Humboldt, (right Heather, Deb and or Christie?), the houses were straight up HILLBILLY dives! I was like I will pull up a rock in the woods under the red woods with Hope tied to me and live, before I’d pay to live in a place like that for 700 a month!
