This is true - I feel like I could easily end up disliking her if she screws Leo around because she's clinging to a memory of Sammy. If RR goes there, he's going to have to be very careful to not make her really selfish about it.

It’s just, Percy was the one who told Zeus that he still had a lot of life left/didn’t want to peak at sixteen (dun have TLO on me so I can’t quote him exactly), so him just bounding straight into “yeah, I want domestic bliss for the rest of my life” seems… not in keeping with him. IDK. Thing is, Annabeth is a massive part of that decision - remember how Percy flashes back to TTC when he was like hyperventilating when he thought Annabeth was going to join the Hunters? He recognises that that's how she is feeling on Olympus then; and even when he is momentarily tempted, he basically thinks about all the awesome advantages of apotheosis, looks at her, and says no. To Zeus. Plus he's only just sixteen when he's talking about being off to a good start with "building something permanent" with Annabeth at the very end of TLO. So, of course, you'd never assume that a teenage male character would be thinking about marrying his first girlfriend, but it's been an aspect of Percy's character since he and Annabeth first began dating.
That, and I find it poetic justice that suddenly Jason is the clingy jealous one after fandom spent an entire years trashing/characterizing Reyna as the same... Yes! That whole time I was just like, Reyna is, like, the Roman equivalent of Annabeth! If your boyfriend goes missing and comes back with another girlfriend, I think you're allowed to be upset.
...even though we didn’t know anything about her Except that she was Roman. Which everyone assumed meant straight up bitch, just because she was powerful. /grumbles

He’s gonna have to be really careful about a lot of things, like how complicated he’s setting all the relationships up to be. Not just Leo<->Hazel<->Frank, but Piper<->Jason<->Reyna<->Percy<->Annabeth is gonna be a mess. Not to mention Greece Vs. Rome. They’re both proud, legitimate entities that have genuine beef with the other side, sorting those grievances out believably is gonna be tricky. They have to resolve their differences but still give those grievances weight enough for us to believe that these two groups have been fighting over them for thousands of years. But not too quickly either or the resolution will come off as shallow.
And speaking of the differences, Camp Jupiter and New Rome are really cool, aren’t they? I lol'd when the Romans were all like super builders, and I totally get why they're not so nitpicky about specific heritage. But b/c of that, it was much less magical that Camp Half Blood, I felt. At CHB, everybody's a demigod training to use their godly gifts, so it's like, you have Mr. D and Demeter's kids making plants grow and Hephaestus' kids making cool magic things down at the forges and Apollo's kids kicking ass in basketball because the ball always goes in. And the cabins, like Artemis' glowing at night and Apollo's glowing during the day, and the dryads melting straight out of the trees and all the pegasi. I really missed that at CJ. I also don't like the way the Romans treat their fauns (which is why I wasn't upset when Percy used them for cannon fodder during the war games, hee).

That’s part of my reservation right there. They were only dating for a few months before Percy disappeared. They may have known each other for a couple years, but relationships always change when you go from friendship to dating. My mom got remarried to a guy she’s been good friends with for three decades, and even after knowing each other very well during all that time, it still changed them. B/c that’s just what happens. I guess, I just feel like Percy’s rushing into something and I’m nervous b/c I can see him getting really hurt from it and I couldn’t stand that happening to my baby. I feel like he’s setting himself up for heartbreak. I dun feel like Annabeth always treat Percy the best, either. :/

About that, I hope RR will have Percy examine his choice to turn down godhood a little deeper than just not wanting to leave Annabeth. It has to be more than just her. B/c it seems like Percy turning down the gods’ offer is going to have more consequences than we thought. Remember how indignant Hephaestus was? And that comment about how the first time Hazel saw Percy, she thought that he was a god?

...the Romans were all like super builders, and I totally get why they're not so nitpicky about specific heritage. But b/c of that, it was much less magical that Camp Half Blood, I felt. I think all you're saying is true, but Percy is one to rush in, which is why I don't really have a problem... Maybe assuming your first girlfriend who you start going out with when you're 16 isn't the wisest assumption, but Percy is a pretty reckless guy, and I don't have trouble believing he'd be the same way when it came to relationships. Also, RR is obviously the captain of the SS Percabeth, so I'm not worried. I hope he doesn't screw with them too much in MoA. I JUST WANT THEM TO BE HAPPY OMG THAT'S ALL I WANT.
Also, can I ask why you think Annabeth doesn't always treat Percy well? I've heard a few people say it in the fandom and I just don't see it. I mean, I also adore Annabeth entirely so I may be missing something but... like, is it a specific thing she does/doesn't do or just a vibe...?
I'm certainly interested to see if we see any deeper consequences of Percy turning the gods down...
