A/N : sorry this is a very short chapter; I had a rough week and I’m mentally and physically exhausted.
There was a picture missing on the wall. He stared at the empty space in disbelief. It was his picture; a portrait that at one time he was proud of. He was a beauty, this elegant young man; admired and loved. But his beauty came with a price; a deal struck with the dark powers had made him immortal. Now, instead of growing older, his portrait would age. He dared not look upon it, for to do so would spell his doom. By staring into the eyes, he would confront his demons; his time upon this earth would come to an end in agonizing seconds. Long slender fingers touched the wall; he prayed that it was safe, for whoever stole his portrait held his life in their hands.
A letter had arrived for him from an unknown sender; he read it slowly; fingers trembling; heart hammering in his chest.
“You’re portrait is safe, Mr. Lee. No harm will come to it.”
The young man gasped.
“He knows my real name.”
The fine young gentleman who went by the alias Dorian Gray, swallowed hard. He continued to read; eager to find out the whereabouts of his portrait and who held it captive.
“I have a proposition for you. I require the services of a gentleman to act on my behalf; a gentleman with special abilities like yourself. There are others in your midst with whom you share similar goals. They too, are afflicted by a curse and are doomed to live in the shadows.”
The elegant young man stopped reading for a moment.
“Others? Immortals? Is it possible?”
He paced across the parlor, hastily throwing the pages he finished on the floor.
“I humbly ask that you gather these other special gentleman and bring them to me. I have already made arrangements for travel; you will find a large sum of money has been deposited in your bank account. All the details and whereabouts of your soon to be comrades are contained within this letter. Regardless of your decision, these men will be found and brought to me, but if you truly wish to be free of your curse, then you will do my bidding. I’m sure you will make the right decision. One of these gentleman is already on his way from Africa. The others you will find are closer to home; two dwell in London; another pair call Paris their home. The last and most elusive, may be difficult to find, his true location is shrouded in mystery.”
The handsome immortal wasn’t sure if he was angry or intrigued. He continued to read the letter, his mind racing; thoughts flooding his brain. The final page was the list of “gentlemen” he was to find and recruit. As he read the names, a shiver went up and down his spine.
Dr Jekyll. The Invisible Man. The Phantom of the Opera. The Hunchback of Notre Dame. Dracula.
“Dracula? He wants me to go to Transylvania and find a vampire? Who is this lunatic?”
The young gentleman scanned the letter for a signature. The words at the bottom of the final page made the immortal’s skin crawl.
“Dr. SCM, Burg Frankenstein.”
Lee Kiseop slid to the floor.
“Frankenstein, “ he whispered; “the mad doctor has my portrait.”
Far away, high a top a mountain peak, a storm was brewing; a storm that would shatter the laws of science and break the laws of God.
