AN: I don’t know ancient Egyptian. I used a glossary of terms for certain words to add “flavor” to the story.
The mummy stood, body slightly trembling, not yet recovered from it’s ancient sleep. It managed to acknowledge Professor Geng’s bow; it nodded it’s head; slowly turning to each of the men in the room, returning their respectful gestures, save one. The Vicar Siwon Choi did not acknowledge the Prince. He stood tall in defiance of the ancient creature that was brought back to life through the use of the dark arts. He would not bow or genuflect to any one; no he would not, this man of God…
All eyes turned to the Vicar as the mummy made great efforts to walk his way. He stumbled at first; recovering his balance, he walked slowly until he faced Siwon. The Vicar was taller than he was and well built; even the mummy could see that. In a physical confrontation, the frail Prince would no doubt lose. But the Prince, despite being dead for thousands of years, still remained clever; he would win in a battle of wits with this man who refused to acknowledge his regal countenance.
The mummy dared to reach up and touch the cross around Siwon’s neck.
“Hem netjer,” he spoke in a deep voice; far deeper than expected from such a slender creature.
“What did he call me?”
The mummy narrowed his eyes at the vicar; slight smirk appearing on his face.
“Hem netjer means priest in Kemet,” the professor answered. “He knows what you are. Very clever.”
Siwon cleared his throat.
“If you speak this Kemet, you should tell him his Gods are long dead; mine reigns supreme now.”
Zico and his gang had a look of horror on their face; Siwon was going to get them all killed. Despite the mummy’s frail appearance, they believed he had great and terrible power.
“Perhaps you should tell him yourself.”
“No need.”
All fell silent as the mummy spoke in their native tongue.
“You have awoken me with The Book. The magic is powerful; I can understand your words.”
The mummy stared into Siwon’s eyes; slender fingers fondling the silver cross around the vicar’s neck.
“My Gods are not dead, hem netjer; they sleep. I feel it in my heart.”
The men gasped as the mummy grasped the Siwon’s hand, placing the palm of the vicar’s hand against his beating heart.
“I live, hem netjer. It’s a miracle; not one performed by your God, but by mine.”
The mummy released Siwon’s hand and approached the professor.
“ I thank Ra that he gave you the desire and intelligence to find me, and the fortitude to perform such a ritual. You must have faced great ridicule.”
Han Geng nodded his head. The scientific community labeled him as a lunatic; now he will prove them wrong.
The others backed away slowly; giving the mummy a wide birth. As his steps became surer he wandered around the temple they had built for him; eyes examining every inch of the walls; fingers lovingly tracing the hieroglyphs; lips mouthing the words as he read the holy symbols. He shed a tear, and then another; thankful that his back was turned to the others and they could not see. He wiped them away and took a deep breath.
“Excellent work,” he told the professor.
Geng smiled; arm outstretched and pointing to Zico and his men.
“My architects, my lord; I’m very proud of them.”
The Prince smiled at each of them.
“Fine work from such young men. I am grateful to you. You shall be rewarded in this world, as well as in the next. Osiris will welcome you to the Land of Two Fields with open arms.”
The vicar laughed.
“You are still skeptical? I admire your conviction. You must teach me about your God so I may understand your devotion. Perhaps you will open your mind to understanding mine.”
The mummy walked to the lagoon and began stripping the rest of the bandages from it’s slender body. The workers turned away, not daring to stare at the naked prince . The mummy smiled to himself as he rubbed his head; he ran his fingers through the extremely short layer of hair where before there was none.
“I have hair,” he laughed; he could barely grasp it, but it was there; it was as if he had forgotten to shave it.
“You don’t have to cut it any more,” Han Geng told him. “Things are different now. You don’t have to worry about it.”
The mummy turned to face the professor who did not flinch at the sight of the naked prince.
“Then I shall grow it long until it flows like a stalk of wheat in the wind.”
The Prince waded into the pond; he laughed playfully as he bathed himself; Geng, the workers and the vicar all huddling up to discuss their next steps.
“ I don’t get it,” U Kwon stated. “He looks normal. Aren’t mummies supposed to be all dried up and shamble like zombies?”
B Bombed giggled.
“It’s the magic of the book, stupid,” Zico explained.
Geng took his journal from his pocket and began jotting down notes.
“What do we do now?” Jaehyo asked.
The professor closed his notebook and put it away.
“First, we get him some clothes and feed him. He’ll take some time getting used to things. Then we’ll have to teach him about the modern world. Start small boys; we just can’t bring him before the public the day after he’s been resurrected. The most important thing is to keep quiet. No one is to speak of this to anyone.”
They all looked at the vicar accusingly.
“Swear to God,” he said; his words reassuring them.
Zico and his boys went off to gather the things the professor asked for, leaving the vicar and his friend alone with the prince.
“What do you make of him?” Geng asked Siwon.
The vicar sighed.
“Cocky bastard.”
The professor nodded in agreement.
“He is a prince, after all.”
As they sat down to discuss their future plans, the prince continued to frolick in the waters of the pool, unaware that he was being observed from below.
Junsu, the Creature from the Black Lagoon smiled to himself.
“My prince has returned.”
He swam away to the safety of his lagoon. He would return when the moon reached it’s zenith; only then, in the darkness of night, would he dare to appear before the resurrected prince in the hopes of rekindling what was lost so long ago; a forbidden love which caused the untimely death of his prince, and forced him to hibernate in the darkest depth of the coldest, blackest water for thousands of years.
But the mummy and the Creature were not the only fantastical beings that roamed the earth. Other supernatural creatures began to stir from their slumber; some tired of skulking in the darkness; they looked to the skies for guidance; divine or otherwise. The raising of the mummy from the dead was just the start. Soon there would be a gathering; a gathering of rogues; monsters and men who were bent on destruction and taking over the world.
