Tutorial: Coloring
For:
snowflakie06 A tutorial on the coloring of
my Veronica Mars batch requested by
snowflakie06. This will cover going from
this cap, thanks to VM-Caps, to this icon:
.
1. Before cropping, I duplicate the base image twice and set both new layers to Screen 100%.
2. I add a Color Fill layer (
#CEB191) on top of all the layers and set it to Soft Light 100%.
3. I duplicate the original image and move that layer above the Color Fill layer, setting it to Soft Light 100%.
4. I duplicate the original image again and move that layer about the Soft Light layer, setting it to Screen 100%.
5. I add a Color Fill layer (
#00D0BA) above the Screen layer and set it to Soft Light 25%.
6. I add a Selective Color layer above all of the layers and use Red (Black 5%) and Black (Black 5%).
7. Now that I have my basic layers, I crop the image down to 100x100. I try to leave some of the image outside the boundary of the crop tool in case I want to adjust it. I almost never choose Delete, but always Hide.
8. I create a new layer above my Screen layers and below my first Color Fill layer. I fill that layer with a
100x100 Pattern I made, then I set it to Hard Light 100%.

9. Now is when I start playing with the image placement to see if there is a better framing than my original crop gave me. This is why I don't Delete when I crop. In this case, I kind of wanted Logan to stay in the frame. When I moved the image over, the text popped into my brain based off KB's expression, and the rest is history. I felt the color block was needed to help the text stand out, but usually I try to avoid them. I just chose a color out of the image and tweaked it until it worked for me.

10. Final layers for the coloring are below, the font is Kravitz Thermal (14 px, #FFFFFF), etc. Only nine layers if you don't count the text and color block.
Feel free to ask question for clarification. Sometimes I forget a step or think something is clear when it isn't to others.
Please do not copy the steps to make the exact same icon. If you try this tutorial out, I'd love to see the results.
