Phil had woken up a few months ago, though waking up might be a stretch, as he'd been dead. He remembered Arkham. He remembered dying again there, his fingers laced in Kenzi's and Clint's ghost screaming at them to run. He remembered all of it and it hurt, because for a long time after he woke up, he was alone. Then one day, while wandering through a new city, Kenzi walked right under his nose. He'd been following her for a few weeks now, trying desperately to tell her that he was there, but no matter what, he couldn't do anything noticeable enough.

Finally, he'd watched her speak to her friend about the amulet, hoping that it was the real deal like the one he'd found.

He was standing behind her as she put it on. "Well, does it work?" He'd have an answer soon enough.

"HOLY FREAKIN--" She jumped at the sound of his voice and practically flung herself at the table in front of her, turning to look over her shoulder at-- "... Philliam?"

Oh. My. God.

"PHIL?! Is that actually you? Oh god, are you actually dead? Are you a dead Phil ghost or do I just have some sort of brain tumor? I'd rather hallucinate you than have you actually be ectoplasmic." She takes a deep breath, standing up from the chair and turning around to face him completely. She covers her mouth with her hand, staring at him. Don't cry in front of the most badass dude you know that wears a suit 24/7! It's so uncool.

"You can see me?" He didn't even try to hide his relief.

"You can see me! I've been following you for weeks!" He almost forgot that he was dead as he moved in to hug her and... moved right through her. Damn it. He sighed.

"Kenz, I died before we ever met. After... after Arkham, I just woke up here and I've been like this ever since. I found you a few weeks ago and I've been following you and trying to get your attention." He had no idea why he was in Canada, but he was beyond thankful for the familiar face, especially now that she could see him, too.

"No. I can't see any ghostly versions of my Philociraptor anywhere. I just really love talking to thin air and carrying on an imaginary conversation with dead practically-family members for kicks. OF COURSE I CAN SEE YOU!" Seriously, Phil. Come on!

Okay, so the not-crying plan was falling apart when he tried to hug her and couldn't. She sniffed and bit the inside of her cheek, but tears were pricking at the corners of her eyes.

"I know... I know you died. Loki showed me and I-- I didn't think-- I mean--" Fuck. "I'm sorry, Phil." There had to be a way to fix it. Arkham fixed it. She was talking to him right now! There had to be something. Anything!

"Why... would you follow me?"

"You were the first familiar face in a sea of strangers. I'm a ghost and I'm stuck in Canada." He frowned. "And why wouldn't I follow you? You're You!" You're family, too. Keep up, Kenzi!

Shaking his head, he took a step back. The last thing he wanted was to do was make her cry. "God, I'm so glad that you're okay." And that she can see him and she remembered him. He'd been so scared.

If she's alive again, could that mean that Clint is, too? The others! Hell, even Loki. They could all be here. They could be okay. Not that Loki would be their Loki. He was from a completely different time. He should probably warn Kenzi of that if she decides to look for him. The last thing he wants is her getting hurt.

Well that just made her entire lifetime. She makes a sound halfway between a laugh and a sob before reaching out to touch the back of his hand experimentally. Her fingers went right through. So weird...

"Yeah, yeah, I'm fine. Alive and only slightly mentally scarred for life. What about YOU? How do we... fix. This." She gestures to all of him. Because you know... he's dead. "Okay, well the stuck in Canada thing is easy. Roadtrip. You've been following me, right? We can just... like-- we can go find the others. See if they remember. TAKE TURNS with the amulet thing this time."

Because that hadn't ended so well the last time. Kenzi shudders. Not a fun memory. Not even close.

"How hard can it be to find a sometimes-invisible flying aircraft carrier and a guy that turns into a giant, green rage monster?"

God, Phil was holding back himself. He wanted nothing more than to pull her into a tight hug. Normally, he wasn't very touchy, but when it came to his close friends, being able to touch them had come to mean something.

"Well, I'm--" He wasn't even sure how to answer that. He was dead and he was so lonely before he'd spotted her and he missed Bruce and Clint so much and he couldn't even hug her. "I'm here. I'll be alright." He gave her a reassuring smile.

And then he was smiling a little more warmly. "You'd be surprised how good Bruce is at hiding, but I have some experience in finding him."

That smile would be a little more reassuring if he was ALIVE but it did the trick. She smiles, nodding, and clears her throat. Keep it together, Kenz! It's not so bad. Could be worse. WAY worse. He's here and he's talking to her and it's like he's not even gone ( ... )
