'Real Housewives' Vicki Gunvalson defends decision to still date Brooks Ayers

The on-again, off-again relationship between The Real Housewives of Orange County star Vicki Gunvalson and Brooks Ayers seemed to permanently go on off when he told her, in light of all the criticism over their relationship, that they needed to part ways during the reunion show. However, Vicki, in a Daily Mail article posted on Thursday, Nov. 28, has now revealed that things are hardly over between them. In fact, they're still dating.
"We are still seeing each other from time to time. He lives in a different state - but he was wrongfully abused on the show, both by other cast members and my daughter [Briana]. They magnified the truth. I wouldn’t be with someone who didn’t treat me right, who didn’t treat me like a princess, and I don’t need to be protected. I mean, I’m 51 - I’ve got this!" she said.
"We tried breaking up and it didn’t really work for us, but I’m just dating him - we’re not married or engaged - and dating someone is how you find out about them. I know my daughter worries, but she’s only met him four times and in any case, we each have our own lives to lead - we can’t lead anyone else’s life for them. Other people have their opinions but I really, really care for this man," she added.
One reason many dislike Brooks Ayers is probably because he threatened to beat Vicki's ass and called her a f***ing whore one night in early 2012 while on the phone with Briana Gunvalson's husband Ryan Culberson. When the audio of the call was released, Brooks quickly apologized for his drunken behavior that night, an apology that Vicki Gunvalson seems to have long accepted.
