Penny reaches the edge of the jungle, marveling at how bizarre and sudden the clearing came. She was still equally as terrified as she was earlier. When she woke up with a pounding headache and covered in sand on some beach. It had been over half a day since she had ventured into the thick jungle. She had begun to think she'd never escape it, the ( Read more... )

James pulls the van up to the sonic fence, stopping a few feet away. He climbs out of the van and heads to the nearest post. Going straight for the little box, he begins to fiddle the buttons, changing the code on the fence.

Penny almost can't believe what she sees, another human. Her slight suspicion of where exactly she was has grown. Not wanting him to get back into that blue van and leave, she decides to run over to him. Perhaps he could help her.
Pardon me, hello. I... it's been so long since I've seen another person, I do--She fumbles feeling flabbergasted Where exactly am I?

James jumps back and pulls out his gun, raising it half way before he spots the woman. He looks at her, curious, and then lowers the gun back down and sticks it in it's holster. He's not sure who she is, but for some reason, she looks familiar. He puts out his hand instead, warning her not to come any closer.

Hold on! Stay there! Just, let me turn these off...

He fiddles with the buttons again and it's not soon before the humming noise goes away. He waves her over.

All right, come on. Hurry!

She looks at him terrified as he pulls the gun out, but he lowers it and the terror dies down. However, she still is slightly suspicious. He turns off that horrible buzzing sound and, and she looks at the towers curiously. She runs past them a little hesitantly and feels immediate relief as she passes them by. Penny stops just in front of him.
What are those things and who are you?

He gives her a casual glance as he turns the pylons back on and closes the box.

They're a security system. An electric fence type deal. The humming means it's on.

He turns and faces her, looking at her curiously. He still can't take the feeling that he knows her somehow.

I'm James. James Ford. And you might be?

Security system? I see...
She holds her hand out for him to shake it.
Good to meet you James, thank you for helping me.
My name is Penelope, Penelope Hume.

He nods and smiles that charming smile of his, shaking her hand warmly. When he hears her name, however, he freezes, his eyebrows shooting up.

Hume, huh? You wouldn't happen to be the Penelope formerly known as Widmore, would you?

Well this was quite strange, Penny looks at him curiously.
Yes, Widmore is my maiden name. My father is Charles Widmore, do you know him?
She ends her sentence in a mild panic, if he knew about her father then he'd have to know about Des.
Do you know a man named Desmond? Please, tell me you do.

A somewhat bitter look crosses over his face.

We've had our run-ins.

At the second part he can't hold back the grin that creeps over his face.

Yeah, I know Desmond. He'll be glad to see you.

Joy spreads over her face, and she wipes away the already flowing tears.
You know him, you know my Desmond? He's here. I can't believe it, I thought-- oooh he was gone so long and I--Can you take me to him? Please?

Her joy is contagious. He smiles broadly back, already imagining how happy his friend will be when he brings Penny back to the barracks.

Sure thing. Hop in the van and we'll head that way.

He makes his way back to the van and climbs in.

She climbs in after him, unable to stop her smile. She was finally going to be able to see her husband again. As she fastens her seatbelt she looks directly over to James.
Thank you. Thank you so much.

He looks over at her smiles before putting the van into gear and taking off.

You're welcome.

You don't happen to remember how you got here, by any chance, do you?

No, I don't. I remember putting Charlie to bed and then it's all very blank.
There is a sudden pang in her chest when she mentions Charlie. She clenches her fist and knots her brow in worry. The only consolation in her mind was that he was defiantly in a safer place than she was. Penny puts her best brave face on and looks out to the road.
How much longer do we have James?

He nods. Desmond had mentioned Charlie before, and he knew it must be hard for her to be away from him now.

Just a few more minutes. We've got a little cluster of houses in a clearing. The barracks.

Desmond's workin today, so I'm not sure if he'll be at the station, but I'll be sure to give him a call over the walkie.

Desmond has told me stories of this place before, but I never expected it to be quite so strange; yellow houses, electromagnetic fields, smoke monsters. I always believed him but, being here it's so... peculiar.

She looks at him hopefully.
Could you, please?
